Shave 7 ・ 115 g left

Having grown accustomed to using a different soap each day, the prospect of staying with only one soap for an entire week was daunting at first. But I’m learning that this approach has its own advantages. Every morning the fundamental traits of the soap slowly reveal themselves, making each shave a little better than the last. With each pass of the razor, I become more intimate with the texture, the scent, and the subtle nuances that make this soap interesting. And in these moments of quiet contemplation, I discover a sense of progress; the act of shaving becomes a moment of insightful growth. Whether I learn more about the soap itself or the tools that perform the task, it all brings a tranquil feeling of understanding. Who needs yoga, when you’ve got wet shaving?

I really liked the Fine hard soap pucks.  Sad to see them go but hey, I have probably 5 of them around so it’ll be a while before they are gone.  Fine Fresh Vetiver this morning.  Vetiver?  Yes, if you know where to look but this one is a citrus blast at first and to really get the grass I have to wait for an aftershave dry down (fine aftershaves are every bit like a cologne in staying power). At any point though this scent is awesome and that old Fine soap is, well…….Fine!

I have a friend who escaped Viet Nam when Saigon fell.  Her father was a Major in the Viet Nam army and a helicopter pilot.  He was shuttling folks out of the US embassy when North Viet Nam overran the city. She was also flown out to a US Navy ship and tells of watching choppers being tipped into the sea to make room for others to land.  She shared that on the ship the children were given an apple and a box of Cracker Jack.  The apple was a familiar fruit but the Cracker Jack was new to her.  She shared that the smell of Cracker Jacks toasted sugar and peanut smell will always smell like safety and freedom to her.  Mikes Vetiver has that same Cracker Jack peanut vibe and I recall her story every time I use it.  Mikes Freedom Vetiver.
