Thanks Tommy! All of the scents I grabbed from the last drop from Grooming Dept. are fabulous. It's obvious why you love this one so much. Great year round scent. Definitely backup worthy. Not sure that I'll have a six puck backup, like some folks, though.

In many respects, I’ve come full circle in my shave journey. After trying hundreds of soaps and dozens of razors, I’m back to the two brands that I started out with: Barrister & Mann and Edwin Jagger. Over the years I’ve spent a lot on pricey razors and fancy soaps, but I can’t say any of them has outstripped these two stalwarts by much. So what’s their back story? Let’s start with Edwin Jagger.

In 1988, Neil Jagger embarked on a mission. Displeased with the quality of a recently purchased razor, he decided to take matters into his own hands and turn out one of his own. Starting in his humble cellar, Jagger named his business after his English grandfather. Success came swiftly and eventually the company grew into a globally recognized brand. (I know you have at least one of his razors.) Today it is famed for its Sheffield craftsmanship and meticulously handmade products. Jagger himself still has a hand in designing each brush, razor, and stand. 

The company uses a code consisting of letters and numbers to identify razor heads and handles based on color, pattern, and year of introduction. For instance, today’s razor, the DE86RC, can be decoded to mean a Double-Edged razor, based on the model designed in 2008, with a black (6), Rubber-Coated number handle. The number following the 8 refers to the color of the handle: 1 is red, 3 is blue, 5 is grey, 6 is black, 7 is ivory, 8 is green, 9 is chrome, and 12 is burgundy. (I don't know what happened to 2, 4, 10, and 11.) Additional letters describe the texture of the handle: BA barley, KN knurled, RC rubber coated, L laser etched, etc. Most of these razors are moderately priced, but that doesn't reflect the high quality of the shave they give. Load them up with a Wizamet blade, and you’ve got one of the smoothest, not mention one of the classiest shaves imaginable.

Face Shave

Razor: Blackbird Ti
Blade: Gillette Nacet (3)
Brush: Trotter w/TNS L3
Soap: Hoffman’s Red Hollow

TNS makes some exceptional brushes and this L3 is incredible.

Head Shave

Razor: WR2 1.55
Blade: Gillette Nacet (1)
Brush: TNS H4
Soap: B&M Eigengrau

Had to pull out this TNS H4 tonight and took a break from Red Hollows.
