Crumiro (Abbate y La Mantia) biscotti
Shave 1 ・ 150 g left

A crumiro is an Italian cookie (biscotto) flavored with hazelnuts. Abbate y La Mantia, always a bit quirky, have not only made these cookies the inspiration for this fragrance, they’ve also popped them right on the label. (Look under the man’s nose.) On cool mornings, me and the mrs. like to dip our biscotti into cocoa. What does that smell like? This soap. Sweet, nutty, a little flowery, today’s lather smelled temptingly edible.

Southsider, I see what you mean when you write that Abbate y La Mantia is good for an occasional treat. Their soaps are odd and amusing. The packaging alone makes each shave feel like Christmas morning. But their cushion isn’t super deep. I may feel a bit chaffed after a close shave. Luckily, I still have a few drops of Dragonsbeard’s Ethos skin food lotion (more on the way!). It saves the day, providing healing for battered skin and giving me confidence to keep picking up these vegan soaps morning after morning. Looks like AlphaFrank75 is following the same regimen.

I bought lots and lots and lots of TFS and RR shave soaps early in my wet shaving journey and they worked well. But in general, on performance alone, my skin usually was feeling like the lather wasn't as dense as I'd like or my face was really dry after rinsing. Thats why I stopped using them in my shaves but the fragrances were always excellent. I have been considering getting just a few samples off Maggards of some Abbate scents. Wondering what the saffron may do to their formula, that yellowish color of the soap is quite interesting.

By the way, everyones experience with what can be considered a "drying" shave soap are subjective and unique to each individual. YMMV. To be fair, as much as I like SV, I'm sure it has enough people that could consider that to be a drying soap. Whatever it is, my results are consistently more enjoyable and comfortable using SV versus a TFS/RR old formula soap. My skin says a lot for what products seem to work in terms of calmness aka avoiding red hot skin.

Just Here for the Shaves
Williamsburg, KY
Sunday January 29, 2023
Razor: Autostrop A1
Blade: Gem SS
Brush: Sorrentini Clown Puke/Synthetic
Soap: A&E NYC (1508.5)
AS 1: Witch Hazel
AS 2: A&E NYC
Fragrance:
Consecutive Daily Shaves - # 1,546

Yesterday was the A2 and today is the A1's turn. My 2 favorite Autostrops by far. I've been hitting this soap harder than every other day since I didn't start the 1508.5 at the beginning of Jan as I should have. Trying to make up for lost time. While there is still a lot of life left in this soap, it has shown it's first sign of weakness......the donut hole has begun........
