Fat Tuesday - Mitchells Wool Fat

What a weird shave. Did my thousand step lather routine, dropped the brush in a sink full of water, broke my antique soap dish, all the while the foamy lather dissipated on my face. One could count the freckles on my face. Lather became invisible. I looked like Santa Claus before I dropped and destroyed everything.

Did not want pix of this miserable shave.....

So I shaved anyway-the invisible lather. Stuff was so slick?! Got a great 2 pass BBS? WTH?

Learned - lather appearance means nothing. Foamy airy stuff worked great.

Post is/was niiiiice. Hmmmm.

Agreed Tommy, I learned the same thing with the late Williams. Looks like terrible lather, but surprisingly works great.

Like Tom, I earmarked Mitchell’s Wool Fat for today’s shave, but then I read his sad story. My sympathies for his troubles shattered my heart and redirected my path. I opted for a soap that always creates a luxurious white lather: Martin de Candre’s Original. Some say only six swipes are needed to generate a voluminous coat; I however err on the side of indulgence – I need forty-five swirls. The outcome is uniformly splendid, the ideal lather for a close, one-pass shave. And that wondrous smell! It was as if all the joys of spring had been distilled into a single, captivating fragrance, perfectly embodying the sans-souciant mood of the first morning in May.

Oxford & Cambridge (Czech & Speake) minty lavender

On paper at least, Oxford & Cambridge is an aromatic fougère, crafted from lavender, mint, rosemary, and bergamot. A touch of peppermint lifts the senses, yet still manages to preserve the overall serenity. The refreshing top notes are intertwined with a soft base of oakmoss, but this moss is so light and mellow, it's hardly sniffable. At the end of the day, it may be a stretch to call this a proper fougère. The fragrance was created in 1994 by John Stephen, who also worked on No. 88 and Cuba for Czech & Speake. Over the years it has changed very little. But unfortunately the old tallow soap base made by Valobra has been replaced by a tallow-less reformulation that cannot compare favorably with the original version.

You know more than me on sniff and smells but the way I see it's a soap not the original frag and I imagine many of the base notes are cooked out when the soap is prepared.
