Clay Face
Honolulu, Hawaii
Imperial Rum (Phoenix & Beau)
Shave 6 ・ 117 g left

This is a bay rum for people who don’t really like bay rum. It’s mild and incensy and couldn’t possible upset even the most finicky nose. Generally the fragrance of bay rum is fleeting, but this scent disappears somewhere between the puck and my face. I like the lather, and I got a good shave. Still, I may have to spritz this soap with some St Johns to remind myself what I’m shaving with.

Head Shave

Razor: Executive Fatboy
Blade: Astra SP
Brush: Paladin Chief 26mm
Soap: Southern Witchcraft Samhain
Splash: PAA Blue Samhain

Another banger from SW! I have not had a soap from SW I did not like yet. This one is a nice sweet scent that I get more of the sandalwood, amber and vanilla so far. The Executive Fatboy is so smooth for me. Started at a 7 and ended on a 3 for the third pass.

A 9 out of 10. If I had the SW splash it would be a 10.

Notes: bourbon, tobacco, pumpkin, sandalwood, nutmeg, oud, incense, amber, vanilla, hazelnut, charred wood, musk

D.R. Harris - Marlborough

This always reminds me of fresh snow and a log cabin, and I'm starting to think it's bc it's creamy and the fact that the lightly spicy nature of its woods brings a fireplace to mind.

At the Northwest Wet shavers meet Douglas gifted me a set of Tokyo Rose.  Rose scents are an enigma to me.  Unlike say Bay Rum, which are all different but mostly enjoyable, rose scents are polar opposite of that for me and I assume it has to do with the high cost of rose scent and the masculinity vs floral that’s rooted in most men.  First off, I love to stuff my nose in a garden rose flower and inhale.  Roses are right up there with lilacs in the “I like it” category.  Thus, I’m very interested in rose soaps.  But rose soaps seem to fall into two categories, straight rose, and rose with other friends.  Straight rose most often misses the mark for me due to synthetic scent that truly does a deep dive into the bottom of Madams Purse.  The best straight up rose I’ve had is the discontinued Art of Shaving rose.  Then there are the “manly roses” that attempt to offer a fella the kiss of a rose without your biker buddies ribbing you.  This rose is one of those.  Rose is certainly a main player but a lot of other notes round it out.  It’s a good one like Sir Henrys Kentucky Rain is a good one.  Finally we start to see some new roses on the scene. Oh, and the aftershave is light scented as is the soap so I’m free to use the scent of my choice.
