What soap/cream did you use today?

What a gloriously brisk morning and a wonderful weekend.  Mystic Waters always gets the rap of a hard soap to lather.  Luckily I’ve never had issues with it but then I just load u til it looks about right and finish lathering on my mug.  Low structure, slick and creamy.  The only issue I have with this brand is a certain lack of masculinity in the scents.  She offers lots of scents though so I have some that suit me fine.  This one, orange/vanilla of course is one of those.  Just as always it offered up a great shave.  I had a puck of Poggio  dei Pini earlier that was so awesome and when it ran out I picked up another only to find the dry, sun-bleached feel of the soap now had a flower note that removed it from my “awesome” category.  I’m hoping that with time the flowers will wilt and die and what is left is what I recall.  At any rate the soap sure shaves!  

Also this weekend was spent in those Idaho hills surrounded by family.  Took Friday evening off for some much needed fly flicking and my oldest son (Teton Shaves) went along.  Here is a picture of the best fish we caught on our three hour float.  We turned it loose but it needs to be more careful because it had a hole through its operculum (gill plate) where a heron likely hit it with its bill.  Be careful old son and stay alive for our next meeting.

Lately I been puzzling over what the theme for October should be. It’s always nice to have some guiding principal to steer you through the month. I can’t stand Tabac, so that’s off the table (sorry if I’ve offended anyone). But I think I have found a happy alternative: “Oc•TONKA•tober.” That’s right, a whole month dedicated to the nutty sweetness of the Tonka Bean and its coumarinic allies. Of course I’ll be mixing in some other autumnal notes like tobacco, incense, and sandal; and Fridays will be reserved for fougères; but the rest of the time it’s going to be all about the bean.

WE!  WE ARE WEIRD? I love Bouki and enjoy very much his write-ups and thoughts.  But not loving Tabac is just wrong.  How would one tell their mother?  Shoot Tabac is what keeps this old Grandpa’s testosterone levels normal.  I still love ya Bouki but come on man!  ??

Might I suggest leaving your soap container open for a week or so, have found anecdotally that airing helps many scents.
