Great call, TommyCarioca. Fridays were made for Fougère, and your dedication to the fern is remarkable. I’m impressed with how much headway you’ve made with that brain bowl. I can see a day when you may actually level the soap with the rim. It will be decades from now, but I have no doubt it will happen!

So far I’ve enjoyed twenty-one shaves with my jar of Fougère. The soap is still flush with the rim. At this rate I’m good for about a thousand more shaves. Won’t be surprised if I’m still observing Fougère Friday in 2042.

Are you saying that this is a "new Kairos" base?
Or, are you saying you had the Nobile in a completely different base (not called Kairos)?
Nero, this is the new Nobile. Maybe the base is not new. Gotta look now. Thanks for inspection of my ignorance. Do you have the first release of the Nobile?

Ok, the new Nobile is the Kairos base - & not the LE Kairos  with Emu oil. I am off my lathering game with GD lately.

Thx Neroli

The lather has a different quality to it that can cause initial caution but in usage it performs top shelf - right there in top 2 artisans.

It quite light, incredibly slick, more cushioned than it would seem and with outstanding post shave. It definitely a tech marvel.

More predisposed to the Mallard base since its latest updates followed by Nai but one cannot deny the new Kairos and KSE incredible breakthroughs.

I picked up Tobacco Oud in the last Grooming Dept drop, and I am very pleased with it.  But with hindsight, I may have had some dumb luck along the way.  I don't know for sure whether my experiences will help you TommyCarioca,   but I hope that they will, and so here goes.

I have very hard water, so I treat it by the sink full with citric acid crystals (1/8 tsp per sink full).  One day, not long after Tobacco Oud dropped, I noticed that the treated water took the patina off a copper brush (shown in today's photo).  I dialed back the crystals, and found that some soaps - and Tobacco Oud was one of them - became more difficult to work with.  But with the 1/8 tsp dose, building lather is in the acceptable range for me.

One last thing for the benefit of anyone with whom I have corresponded privately:  When I told you I was having no problems with Tobacco Oud (or La Rosa Profunda), it is because I was using the high dose of citric acid, so the performance was superb and any time and hydration differences were not noticeable.

I hope that helps Tommy.  Good luck!

Back home right now in Dingle, Ireland for a quick visit to see the family. My wife caught me on the beach. Got to honour Nero with a photo every once in a while.

Man, I am all over that.

When I was shaving with GD in KY [soft water] - had no problems. Back in Dallas, moved all of my GD pux here, and not quite up to snuff.

Science and smart fellows like HighSpeed, Face Scraper, and Davey come to the fore.

How much volume is in your sink HighSpeed? Headed to Lowe's to get me some crystal . It may help with a few other reticent pux.

Hey TommyCarioca

The sink is about 1.5 US gallons, and these are the citric acid crystals I use.  Good luck!
