Tallow Base

This artisan takes obvious pride in their craftsmanship.  On their website they state:  "This is a tallow-based shaving soap using only premium quality ingredients. Some of our ingredient superstars include shea butter, kokum butter, glycerin, and lanolin. The tallow we use is of unsurpassed quality using only the kidney fat, and we are committed to only using 100% organic raised and certified organic grass-fed beef, free from antibiotics, synthetic hormones, GMO feed, or pesticide exposure."

The scent features tobacco leaf, amber and vanilla and is relatively strong off the puck.   The vanilla imparts a brown hue to the soap.

Glenn, how was the quality of the lather ? Did it match the claimed quality of ingredients?

Glenn got me curious, and Dave got me more curious.  That's a lot of soap for the money too (under $18 USD).

This is the full ingredients list, although without the important details than Glenn mentioned: Potassium Tallowate, Sodium Tallowate, Potassium Stearate, Sodium Stearate, Aloe Vera Juice, Potassium Cocoate, Sodium Cocoate, Phthalate-Free Fragrance, Potassium Shea Butterate, Sodium Shea Butterate, kokum butter, Sodium Lactate, Glycerin, lanolin, Tussah Silk
I have a dish of the Plum I picked up, which appears to be tallow. I just didn't like the scent at all. Funny, I picked it up because of the rave reviews I was seeing.

I'm guessing it's the same high quality tallow? Need to check the website.

I finally got to just settle in with Pre de Provence for a couple of shaves with a brush that wasn’t Smokey.

Frankincense with other resinous woods. If that sounds up your alley, you won't be let down.

Both rich. Both excellent.
Not the same, by any stretch.
This is more resinous and frankincense-forward, whereas the GD is more wood (dry) and no frankincense.
Equally great in terms of quality, but need to be a wood-head for both.

Hungarian Lavender (Mike’s Natural Soaps) lemony lavender
Shave 33 ・ 101 g left

This tub of Hungarian Lavender is going to last forever, and I’m going to enjoy every shave. For me Mike’s is the epitome of yogurt lather. It comes out thick and slick, just what I want when the weather gets warm. But at the same time, it isn’t gooey or over oily so I don’t feel like I need to squeegee my face a couple hours after shaving.

Scent Ingredients: Lemon Oil, Lime Oil, Bergamot, Green Mandarin Oil, Organic Bulgarian Lavender Oil, Seville Lavender Oil, Maillette Lavender Oil, Organic Egyptian Geranium Oil, Violet Leaf Absolute, Rose Hydrosol, Rose de Mai Absolute, Organic Rosemary Oil, Jasmine Absolute, Oakmoss, Balsam of Peru, Tonka Absolute, Ambrette CO2 Extract, Himalayan Cedarwood.

IMO there is a clean, refreshing, and very pleasant barbershop vibe to this lavender.  The performance is top notch.
