Ethos Nuage de Citron…my favorite lemon scented soap….
The old, pre-Gillette AOS Lemon cream was also great…but…did not perform nearly as well as the Ethos…

Would think Tonka Imperiale would match up quite well, eh?
Yesterday I used Guerlain Double Vanille Spiritueuse to great effect Danny

Cologne Russe (Barrister & Mann) dark cologne
Shave 1 ・ 108 g left

Barrister & Mann list the notes as lemon, bergamot, petitgrain, herbs, violet, rose, bay, amber, castoreum, benzoin, and vanilla. There’s a lot going on here to be sure, but it was the bay that really caught my eye. At first I supposed it was West Indies bay (pimenta racemosa), and I thought, huzzah! here’s another soap I can include among my bay rum allies. But after sniffing the puck, I’m pretty sure this bay is nothing more than laurus nobilis, the dried bay leaf you cook with. It’s not as pungent as West Indies bay, but it has some delicious lemony side notes that play well with everything else that’s happening in this complex fragrance.

It’s been pretty busy lately so I’ll share the last 3 shave soaps I had used. PAA scuttle sample of Planet Phoenix CK6, sV Manna di Sicilia 4.3 and Ethos Dragonsbeard V2. One thing about 2020 and 2021 is I used a lot more soft textured soaps in my rotation. I seem to have more consistent results when using the newer (softer) formulas is to use to scoop about an almond size smear of shave soap and apply it to the beard. Then I face lather with damp brush to wet and smooth it out.

Hope you all are doing well and enjoying your shaves. Cheers

Soapy Science - Spike Lavender

No photo today. Had the brush lathered up and ready to go for its picture. But then started singing along with Waylon Jennings and forgot the pic. Despite the forgetful nature of my morning, the vocal harmony coming from my bath room was enough to put a smile on the Mrs face Smile

Hi guys,

New to the Damn Fine Shave.  I was referred by Dragonsbeard as I ordered some ethos grooming products from him.  This is my first post.  Today I used Executive shaving company’s bay rum shave cream, one of my absolute favorites.
