Perhaps a pairing of B&M Melange with Herbert's Dune?  Both are incredible works, worthy of Winter
I think you've got something here, Dan! I've never read Dune, but a copy is on its way, and it looks like a little Mélange is coming this way, too.

I used my new sample of it today and IMO Mélange smells like a Marrakesh Hashish house on inventory day!!  Not for me!!

Secretary Ramsey put his foot into it yesterday . . . in the course of his remarks he said that California “needs water and better society.”  “So does h-ll,” yelled someone in the crowd.

Interesting, did not get that at all. Had you suggested a North African restaurant or restaurant district could have concurred. Scent gourmand vs stupefiant to my nose

Lost Souls (Ethos) sappy fougère

At last the Pequod is at the bottom of the ocean, taking all hands, but one, down to an oozy grave. Lost Souls seemed like the best soap to see them off. It’s a consoling scent and a fit end for this watery tale, even though there’s nothing aquatic about it. Rather this is a clean foresty fragrance featuring lots of fir, cedar, and other sappy things rolled up with lavender and mossy bits scraped off the forest floor. And there’s a bit wallop of mint, too. It’s very nice to be back on dry land.

I got my OSP soaps via a friend in the UK as I had some samples years ago via Connaught's when OSP first came out. My subjective opinion is that his soaps, which are rather hard, are simply superb!! You can't go wrong. Their Sandalwood soap is the best I have ever smelled and I have sniffed a few.........soaps that is.  Big Grin   Their AS's are a mystery due to the restrictions of alcohol shipped intl.

OSP, as well as Phoenix & Beau from the UK, are simply top shelf stuff. You cannot go wrong.  Wink

Thanks BP.  I'm sold.

OSP Old Gold

Hey  BPman, thanks for the intel and recommendation.  I'm one shave in with the Old Gold set, and it was a very good shave.

It was easy enough to lather up, and the lather was very easy to shave with - ample, protective, slick, and with excellent residual lather.  The result was a bloodless BBS, and the post was good, although not the best I've had.  Since this is the first shave for me, I can't really say much more about the soap one way of the other.  Nevertheless, in my view, it was a successful opening night.  I liked the aftershave on two counts.  First, it's the type that has noticeable alcohol combined with skin food goodies - sort of "old timey" meets 21st century.  The burn felt mild, but my guess is that this aftershave still provides significant antisepsis and astringency, as well as skin care.  Second, the scent was both enjoyable and intriguing. ...

For those who don't know, the scent of Old Gold is an hommage to Old Spice.  I'm not a scent maven, so I can't comment on how close OSP came, but FWIW it strikes me as being in the right ballpark, and I like it a lot.  I'm also beguiled by it - not something I've previously experienced with software - but I keep trying to figure out where I have smelled this before, and was it from way back?  Mind you (1) I think this is a very nice scent, but not to-die-for, and (2) Lord knows I've shaved with enough products so that surely several have smelled like each other, but never has any generated this kind of curiosity.

Well, so much for my personal impressions.  Thanks again BP.
