I don't load MDC any differently that I do any other soap.

Ethos’ F Base lather gives you a rich, comfortable cushion without obliterating the feel of the blade. Even my ultra-mild Feather razor still let me know it was loaded with a sharp edge. But the lather was so rich and slick, I didn’t fret about any irritation. As Ethos recommends, I didn’t rinse my face squeaky clean between passes. I just added more lather and went to town. When the blade work was done and all the lather had been washed down the drain, my skin felt remarkably clean. No greasy residue at all. How about the smell? Lime. Lots of lime. But there’s a hint of basil and a nice pinch of mint around the edges. The finish of course is awesome. Soft, smooth, and wholesome. So what's that "F" in F Base all about? It doesn't have anything to do with Fresco. It stands for Firm. This soap's no triple-milled puck, but it is about as solid as a Spearhead, a Barrister & Mann, or a Sir Henry's style soap. Loads quick and easy and yields its lather without any special tricks. Top notch.

And…….she’s all done.  So long Marlborough.  It’s been a good three years and although you will be replaced I’m going to be working on a Windsor and an Arlington puck.  I rubbed the smidgen of Marlborough on my cheeks like a shave stick and I spent some time doing so.  Hit it with a brush and that slickness was back.  Performance was great.  The soap however ended up crumbling and the tiny remaining bit hit the bin.

Williams Mug Shaving Soap

I bought a vintage puck, but they sent a modern. Full refund and got to keep it... so why not give it a spin.

Long load still gave a pretty thin lather on the face. I reloaded for the second pass and was much creamier. I think next time I use it, I'll preload and reload (after getting the razor ready and wetting the face) before the FIRST pass to simulate my second pass today, and see if that's the trick.

I have to say, very comfortable shave, extremely slick (and excellent residual), and post shave is even very soft and calm.
I'm shocked.

I record my kit down at the bottom my soap note each day. You may have noticed that I’ve been using the same brush for quite a while. The Phoenix Shaving Peregrino is everything I want in a lather maker. I really don’t have any intention of changing. Same with the razor and blade. The Feather’s mild precision suits me perfectly. So it’s taken nearly eight years, but I’ve finally found an arrangement that works very well for me. And I’m starting to feel the same about my soap. These Spearhead pucks make a great tallowy lather, they smell terrific, and their retro labeling is very satisfying. When it comes to choosing a soap each day, my hand keeps gravitating to the Seaforth! stack. In fact, I’m finding it hard to break out of their orbit. Every time I use one, I think this is what wet shaving was meant to be.
