Rarely, almost never do I go to the same soap 2 days in a row. Couldn't resist this stuff. Thx Nero

Glad you liked it, Tommy! Safe travels!

Art of Shaving Sandalwood shaving soap (tallow) + Coate's Sandalwood shaving cream. The AoS soap makes good lather, but to my nose its scent has a bit of an unpleasant clay undertone, which seems to be balanced by that of the cream.

Henri et Victoria - Fougère

Nice performance and I like this leathery scented fougere, very enjoyable. Fits perfectly with the recent change in weather.

Rained hard all day Thursday, and arose to a white surprise Friday morning. Love this weather.

Blue Tobacco v. (Abbate y La Mantia) cool fruity tobacco
Shave 1 ・ 100% left

“OLFACTIVE: rinsing unripe avocados and papayas in the water of a cold morning
and dried in the sun wrapped in a pulpy tobacco leaf.”

With advertising copy like that, how could I resist? Green fruit wrapped in tobacco leaves. Isn’t that what every shaver dreams of? I give Abbate y La Mantia extra credit for pulling together a series of scents I never imagined would work in harmony.

Blue Tobacco is also supposed to capture the smell of balsamic tobacco leaves soaked in icy ocean waters. The “ice” comes from a dose of synthetic menthol. When I first twisted off the cap, my eyes watered and my nose ran, it was so potent; but after I let it air out overnight, the menthol mellowed. The lather was very pleasantly chilled, but not so cold it that it led to sloppy razor work.

So what does Blue Tobacco really smell like? First off, it’s not a strong tobacco. The golden leaf just sort of gives everything else some creamy softness. Otherwise, there’s lots of watery stuff, some fruity notes, sweet floral bits, and of course the menthol. It smells good, but in an odd way. To be frank, this fragrance really has the makings of a good cough syrup. And it actually pairs very well with Aqua Velva. So, if you like the apothecary-drug store style of perfumery, you may enjoy dipping a brush into Blue Tobacco.
