XXX v. (RazoRock) Acqua di Parma Colonia (-ish)
Shave 1 ・ 47% left
It’s been four years since I dipped my brush into a tub of RazoRock soap. I’ve always enjoyed the scents, but it seems like the lather wasn’t too protective. After a few frustrating shaves, I pretty much wrote this brand off and piffed my soaps to friends and colleagues.
That was the state of things until today, when I tried XXX. It came to me as a gift from a fellow shaver, and it gave me great and glorious shave. So what happened? Well, over the years I learned how to load a brush properly. When I first started out, I would try to build a lasting lather after only thirty swirls. Of course, the results were dismal: thin, fleeting lather that truly could be called ‘suds’. But today I gave this puck of XXX a sound thrashing, close to 250 swirls. I lost count. I just kept swirling until the brush was stiff with soap. In spite of all that soap (or maybe because of it?), I came away with a terrifically slick lather that offered full protection and a close shave at the same time. In a few, it’s good stuff. So good, in fact, I’ve re-ordered the RazoRock scent I first fell in love with, Tuscan Oud. Thanks, TommyCarioca, for making a believer out of me again.
