Vintage Shaver

Eufros Boreal shaving soap (tallow) (sample - oakmoss, patchouli, pepper). Very good lather, but this is another soap that just isn't that much better than what I already have and use regularly.

Island Estate v. (Sir Henry’s) smooth bay rum

I usually save bay rum for Saturdays, but the island fever came over me strong last night, and I knew I wouldn’t be able to shake it until I’d lathered something sweet and spicy. This morning Island Estate came to the rescue. It’s not only got a good bit of bay and rum, there’s also some perky citrus on top and a little wisp of smoke swirling around the edges. What’s remarkable, though, is that there aren’t any sharp parts. No jagged spice or obtrusive lime. It’s just very smooth and pleasant, and coupled with its first-rate lather, Island Estate gives a great shave.

One of my favorite scents, Murphy and McNeils Ouroboros, went pretty quickly to ricing which if I understand is stearic crystallizing and the fix was to rebatch it.  I heated and melted it down and it firmed up and de-riced.  He has since improved his methods and formula and that is not an issue in any of my other M&M soaps.  Was it worth it?  Sure.  I learned something  and wow that scent!  I can buy a new tub of the new stuff but I’ll finish this one first.

I love watching a good pitcher work!  Hey, I was on the mound last night pitching batting practice for a team of 10 to 12 year olds.  Yep, they were hitting me.
