With fourteen kilos of soap on the shelf, I sometimes delude myself that I’ll never run out of lather. This morning, though, I did the math and discovered to my astonishment that I’ll be clean out of soap in a mere nineteen years. That sort of reckoning sends shivers down the spine and lures me into thinking I should load lighter. Will I? Naw. Ever since Merkur Man taught me how to build my lather on the puck, that’s been my preferred method. The emulsion comes out super rich and creamy, and after the puck dries, I find I’ve usually gobbled up between two and four grams of soap. Exorbitant? Perhaps, but to find true joy in shaving, you’ve got to pamper your brush.

And what of today’s soap? Maybe it’s not my favorite scent. The neroli gets lost in all the pepper. But if your idea of good lather is a slick, shiny mess that goes on like wet house paint, this may be your soap.

Here's a link to his Mystic Water video:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IHHYN3Do9ns

He also has one using Mike's Natural Soap.  I don't lather exactly like he does in the video anymore but his method was integral in my learning/lathering process

Nathan’s video from 2015 and a great method! Wonderful forum member but he has not participated in a couple of years.

One of my “short” soaps is Mystic Waters Poggio dei Pini.  It is also one of my favorite scents.  MW is not the easiest soap to work with in my hard water but I wouldn’t consider it terribly difficult either.  Just load more product and add water a bit at a time.  Today the soap took me back to my youth in the Stanley Basin, just over Galena Summit where Clint Eastwood filmed Pale Rider.  Working across a ridge of pines and through a meadow where Spring’s showy Mules Ear Wyethia, no longer festooned with its multi-rayed yellow bloom, has now gone to seed and proffers a sharp, herbal scent.  Below me is Pole Creek and it’s fat trout but it’ll be a few minutes before I get there.  A few puffy clouds sit perched in a brassy-blue sky and the rocky peaks above me have snowbanks that are rapidly getting smaller.  Locusts make a braaaap Braaap sound as they take flight before my feet.  Things are right in the world.

I had to be up and out the door in a timely fashion yesterday (I was foolish enough to work a double-shift). Cremo it was. Today I'm working second shift and had the time for a relaxing shave. What a fine one it was too. As most of you already know, this scent is a homage to Brut. I think Sri did a marvelous job nailing it.
