Hanging out with Marlborouagain today. Yesterday Hwy 20 was closed due to a blizzard. Today’s 54 degree high seemed balmy enough for a picnic with 6 grandkids and two sons. Brats over the fire are just plain good. A quick shave when I got home and man Marlborough fit the day perfectly.
Neroli & Black Pepper t. (Asylum Shave Works) peppery floral
With fourteen kilos of soap on the shelf, I sometimes delude myself that I’ll never run out of lather. This morning, though, I did the math and discovered to my astonishment that I’ll be clean out of soap in a mere nineteen years. That sort of reckoning sends shivers down the spine and lures me into thinking I should load lighter. Will I? Naw. Ever since Merkur Man taught me how to build my lather on the puck, that’s been my preferred method. The emulsion comes out super rich and creamy, and after the puck dries, I find I’ve usually gobbled up between two and four grams of soap. Exorbitant? Perhaps, but to find true joy in shaving, you’ve got to pamper your brush.
And what of today’s soap? Maybe it’s not my favorite scent. The neroli gets lost in all the pepper. But if your idea of good lather is a slick, shiny mess that goes on like wet house paint, this may be your soap.
