Trying to find a vetiver shave soap that I like has been difficult.  I loved Desmond's Barrow Joie de Vetiver but the company went out of business.  I tried Mike's Natural Vetiver but it is too dirty a scent for me as I differentiate between earthy (like) and dirty (not a fan).  Early last week I was browsing ezlovan's Stirling site and just for the heck of it looked up "vetiver" and three shave soaps came up.  Port-Au-Prince seemed to come closest to what I was looking for so I took a chance on it and the matching bath soap (along with a first ever Stirling coffee order).  The package arrived yesterday so I knew I had to try the shave soap this morning.  I am a fan of Stirling Shave Soaps so I knew I wouldn't be disappointed with the performance but there was something about the performance here that was just that little bit better.  Perhaps it is the fact that it contains mutton tallow instead of beef tallow.  Whatever it is, this was just so easy to whip up into a thick protective lather.  Then there was the scent, my initial reason for the purchase and it is, for me, great.  When I took a sniff from the tub I picked up lemongrass.  However, as I built my lather, the vetiver came through as a clean scent.  It is slightly different than what I was expecting but I really like it.  Chatillon Lux La Petite Prairie Eau de Toilette is a very nice complement to this soap.  Both have a vetiver accent but are just different enough to make the morning shave interesting.  This one is another winner for me from Stirling Soap Co.  Thanks Rod and Mandy.

Bath House gets little to no play here on the forum and that is unfortunate.  They offer But two scents, Spanish Fig & Nutmeg and Cedar & Lime.  I only have the Spanish Fig and it is different than any other scent I know of on the market.  Sweet notes of fig, spice of nutmeg, and all anchored by cedar wood.  It’s better than good.  Performance isn’t  Valora good but it’s certainly good enough with easy lather and enough slickness to protect.  Presentation is lovely.

I gave myself an overdue haircut this morning, as well as a trim of the facial hair. Might as well go with a barbershop scent.

Windsor t. (D.R. Harris & Co. Ltd.) citrus, leather, pepper, amber, patchouli, cedar, vanilla & vetiver

Today is something of a milestone for me. I’m celebrating seven years of double-edged shaving. So naturally I reached for one of my favorite soaps, Windsor, which is also one of the very first I bought. My first razor, an Edwin Jagger DE89, broke apart years ago, but this wooden tub has weathered hundreds of lathers. The puck inside is a second refill that I’m always happy to dip into. Its fragrance has remained wonderful: complex, fresh, and never cloying.

And I picked up one of my favorite razors, a 1960 Gillette Super Speed. Light and nimble, this antique razor gives a painless shave that lasts me until the sun goes down.

Haha... Don't worry, I didn't see it right away either.

The razor glides nicely over the skin, provided I keep my angle very shallow. So in that sense it's comfortable. The Gem blades I'm using are another matter. They feel stiff and bulky, and as I mentioned yesterday, they're loud. I'm not getting a smooth slice through the hair, at least not on the first pass. It's all pretty rocky. But the second pass is nicer, and the final pass against the grain is easy. Still, I wish that first pass wasn't so rough. Got any tips for me?

What blade are you using?
Lipripper660: The vendor who sold me the razor also included two loose Gem blades. One side is stamped "GEM." The other is stamped "STAINLESS." There's no other marking. I assumed these were the Gem Super Stainless blades made by Personna. Is that what you're using in your bullet tipped Flying Wing?

Gem PTFE is the best I’ve found.  First couple of shaves and the blade “breaks in” for me.  I’ve wondered about putting them on a finishing stone first but then, that would just seem weird.  (I’m gonna do it).

Not that AOS tallow and I needed any help, but still decided to start with a slick layer of the PAA Cube pre-shave soap (the amazing Christmas version with the Fir Tree scent, aka nirvana)... Doug WILL be re-releasing it next year, right Doug Big Grin

Finish with a splash that is not mentioned frequently... But if you like STRONG menthol, this is for you. Might be stronger than Fine Snakebite splash, for a reference... definitely in the same park.
