What soap/cream did you use today?

Howdy weirdos!  And I say that in a most inclusive and loving way.  Is it strange I find myself checking the site to see who shaved with what?  Yes, I suppose it is.  But there are a lot of destructive thinks that might otherwise occupy my time than hanging out with other gents who have chosen to not look like Hobos.  Is there a problem.  Nope, don’t think so, but I have been tempted to binge-read Bouki’s posts.  Today is a little-known soap that used to get forum time years ago but suddenly became unavailable, thus it has fallen into obscurity.  That is too bad because this very green colored soap in its distinctive plastic bowl is a winner.  Lavender is the scent but this is a “whole bush” rather than just the flower and it has that medicinal camphor scent I find attractive.  Such a great shave and scent.  

It is a shame that Dr. Selby is no longer available.  Here is what I know.  About 5 years ago I tried to find a tub of this soap and had no luck.  The called then distributor to see if they could point me in the right direction.  He told me that the company has temporary stopped production of the soap because the mold used to make the attractive plastic tub is flawed and the plastic is cracking and breaking.  Seemed plausible to me at the time.  He sent me a free 50 gram tube of the product and told me he would contact me as soon as it is back in stock.  I have never used the soap but the cream was great.  Almost a year went by and I did not hear from him.  Once again I contacted him and he informed me he is no longer the distributor for Dr. Selby.  I asked him he had any inventory available.  To make a long story short.  I ended up with about a dozen of the 50 gram tubes, a dozen of the 100 gram tubes and one green tube (menthol) for $10.00.  I later heard that the FDA had a problem with their labeling and that was the end of the product coming to the states.

I cherish the product I have and you should also.  I remember that tub of soap was advertised as being able to product 400 shaves.  While that's hard to believe my tubes really last.

Lemongrass v. (Klar Seifen) soft citrus

These sleek little aluminum pots of Klar soap would have been right at home in the streamlined simplicity of a 1930s airship. Every time I lather this soap, I stare out of my bathroom window and imagine I’m peering down on the sea from a dirigible that’s floating off to Rio. Apart from the daydreams it inspires, is this soap any good? Well, it’s alright. The lather comes out lightish, but it’s still slick enough to give a good shave. The scent is as simple as the design of the container, just a soft, fresh lemongrass that doesn’t have any sharp edges.

I used the Micromatic Flying Wing again. I really like the design of the razor. Sleek and futuristic, it reminds me of the airships I've been dreaming about. The razor glides nicely over the skin, provided I keep my angle very shallow. So in that sense it's comfortable. The Gem blades I'm using are another matter. They feel stiff and bulky, and as I mentioned yesterday, they're loud. I'm not getting a smooth slice through the hair, at least not on the first pass. It's all pretty rocky. But the second pass is nicer, and the final pass against the grain is easy. Still, I wish that first pass wasn't so rough. Got any tips for me?
