Crazy Sandalwood v. (Tcheon Fung Sing) spicy Australian sandal
A pinch of clove gives this Australian sandalwood a nice spicy side note. If you sniff real hard, you can sometimes pick out a sweet and creamy note that’s reminiscent of good Indian sandal. How does it compare to Fine’s Santal Absolut? The volume is about the same. They both fill the whole room with rich, woody goodness. But this Crazy Sandalwood seems sweeter, cleaner, and lighter. It may even harbor a touch of floral too. And Tcheon Fung Sing’s sandalwood also has this going for it: the smell of the soap base doesn't bleed into the fragrance. All in all, very nice.

If I didn’t know the source of this soap I would still have guessed correctly that it was an English soap. Salters French Vetiver cream is a raucous walk on they wild side and I love it. This triple milled puck is a wholly different experience. It’s stated scent is “lavender” but is much more than a simple straightforward lavender and is in keeping with the more staid approach of the respectable British scent houses. “Stiff upper lip” and all that. No, I don’t care about what the Royal Family is up to today, this week, or this year. No, I am not a Britophile and actually like the way we Yanks roll. But I do appreciate their sense of the timeless classic and this soap fits well into that box. Lather was easy, creamy, and protective and offered a great shave with this razor and a new personna lab blue. Scent strength is medium and holds through the shave, lingering a bit after. Post is dryer than some care for but (broken record) I’m going to apply some Shea butter anyway so.... Over all this soap is a strong performer and it was fun finally getting to try it. I do not, however, consider it a lavender soap. (Oh, and the tin is just what I will store it in. It came cello wrapped with a sticker on it.)
