Spent the last three days on the mountain and the snow was glorious.  Snow turns summer cacophony to stillness meant for meditation.  The elk and deer are on their winter range.  Geese and ducks are wending their way to warmer climes.  What’s left up here are the moose, martens, grouse, and trumpeter swans.  The ice is 8 inches think under about two feet of snow and we had some fun catching them.  The boys still think show shoes are more bother than just post-holing out across the ice but this older man appreciates the floatation of the shoes and my metal knees like not having to kiss my ankles as I move around.  It felt good to shuffle out across the ice on about a mile long loop.  I didn’t even bother putting a line in the water. Excellent holiday weekend.
While there I took minimal kit and tried Nivea shave gel without a brush.  Worked well once I added some water.  The scent was pleasant but oh so generic.  Kept me clean shaven though and the finish was plump.

Today was one of the best days on the slopes so far this year.

And this was the best chicken I've ever made. The trick I'm finding with chicken (the dark meat, on the bone and with the skin, at least) is err on the side of a little longer. The two legs I ate fell apart at the touch of a fork. The skin was crisp, and all the fat inside the skin melted onto the meat within.

Folgefonn v. (Fitjar Islands) mint wood

Snow on the ground and icicles hanging from the eaves? No worries. Folgefonn won’t give you frostbite. It’s only lightly mentholated. The mint is backed up by some juniper or cedar. It’s hard to make out what exactly the woody part is, but combined with mint, it’s pleasant and refreshing, and it may remind you of cross-country skiing on a clear day.
