Natural Bay Rum v. (Meißner Tremonia) simple bay rum

The litsea cubeba and cloves in this fragrance are very muted. Mostly what you smell is just West Indian bay leaf (pimenta racemosa) and rum. The utter simplicity of the fragrance makes it my favorite bay rum. The bay note is very nice: spicy without smelling of cloying clove or nutmeg. I haven't seen Natural Bay Rum on Meißner Tremonia's site for some time now. I suspect that's because of a shortage of pimenta racemosa oil. Nearly 70% of the world's bay oil comes from one little Caribbean island, Dominica. Hurricanes in 2015 and again in 2017 crushed the distilleries there and washed out roads that led to the plantations. Though many of the bay trees survived the storms, there was no easy way to collect and extract their fragrant oil. It's become more easily obtainable recently, but Meißner Tremonia hasn't made up a new batch of Natural Bay Rum in quite some time, and I hope they won't let this one drop entirely from their roster.

The fragrance throw of ALL NuaVia Is intoxicating.  Just when I’m about to say Black is my favourite, Green becomes my fav, I get the blue and red out and I can’t decide.  I have all 4, and the scents are VERY different.  Black is spicy citrus, bergamot, cardamon, spicy musk, vanilla/amber.  Lather is consistent, slick, provides that barrier, conditioning/hydrating, dense and ALWAYS PHANTOM LATHER!  I keep Saran Wrap on the top of the ceramic containers and the lids provide the weight to seal.  I don’t want the air to dry them out, they’re NOT a $16 puck. Doesn’t matter what type of brush you use, badger or synth.  This thirsty soap will reward anyone that gives it 5 to 10 minutes of “whip” time! Used a Peter Wolf synth brush for this beautiful mayonnaise below.  [Image: RpVt6hO.jpg]

My only negative point I can make about these soaps is the manufacturer discontinued the ceramic containers that housed the soaps. Give “us” your customers the opportunity to purchase the ceramic containers, don’t determine for “Me” what is or is not expensive.  There are ppl NEW to wet shaving that want to experience a special vessel.

Wow, I did NOT realize this and 2016 WAS a violent storm season down there.  Personally I love clove but your description of this one has me sold. I’m super picky with bay rum, most cheap out and over clove it, that’s NOT Bay Rum, it’s clove lol.

Once again, a Bouki mini review is superior to the manufacturer words.

THANK YOU SIR!

It’s not ever going to be my favorite but it sure is nice.  This cream likes a completely wrung out brush and significant product but if not stingy with the cream it Shaves very nicely indeed.  It is more “night on the town” than “day on the beach”.

I really like this one too.  Fast, simple, NOT your average Lime.  I like what they did here.  It’s name,  “West Indies Lime” implies to me there was going to be that nod to b.Rum, vetiver, citrus. Daydreaming now of a 10 day sleepy beach trip to St Bart’s

SV Asylum Colonia shaving soap (sample from a generous friend), first use. It made excellent lather, moderately thick and quite slick. The scent was pleasant but not as pronounced or as sweet as that of Acqua di Parma Colonia.
