Rose v. (Martin de Candre) dry rose

With each shave the aroma of the rose oil becomes richer. I suspect it will continue to deepen and grow more complex, but it will never be a sweet luscious rose like Eufros' Rosa Bourbon. Still, that may be all for the good. Martin de Candre's milder Rose is an everyday fragrance, one that will satisfy when the weather is cool but won't overwhelm when the sun is blazing. And that comes as a relief since I intend to lather this jar right through the hot months. Some saponiphiles smell a touch of benzoin mingled with the rose. When I sniff the puck, what I pick up isn't gummy resin, it's straight-up rubber. Thankfully it doesn't last in the lather very long.

Floris Verbena shaving soap (tallow).  A great soap except that it has lost nearly all its fragrance.

Barrister and Mann has been a favorite of mine for a long time.  Dickens is his “Christmas” soap but I swear this thing smells great year round.  It's a harder soap (glissant base) and I load it up pretty good to get the dense and creamy texture this soap offers.  I really rather prefer the glissant over the excelsior but hey, first world problems huh?  The soap doesn't offer me a scent trip except it does take me back about 6 years or so when I had a metal tin of Dickens.  Both B&M and I have learned a lot since then
