Excellent.  MdC seems to balance the very good slickness with just the right amount of cushion so the blade fairly slips along my hide whittling the nubbins it encounters.  Smoking close shave.  Excellent vetiver scent.  And I've decided not worth the $75 bucks a tub they ask.  Hey, come now.  I'm not making any judgements of anyone who has a jar or three, and the vetiver scent makes me want to rethink my conclusion and repent of covetousness. But I already have excellent vetiver soaps that offer smoking close shaves which are no longer costing me additional money.  Besides, I could used that money to pay for my pole dancing classes.  (Mama’s gonna be so surprised!). BTW the finish this morning was really not bad.

I have a couple of them that were passed along to me a few years back. I quite enjoy using them and you do get a bit more soap for the money so I may pick them up again but your right the price can make you pause $90 here possibly over $100 if I want the unscented which I dusted off and used today.

Lipripper660, Do you by any chance have Mike's Rose & Cedarwood?  If so, the two scents are similar but I pick up more of the wood scent on Mikes whereas I pick more of the Rose on Shannon's.  Shannon's certainly isn't a straight-up rose, the confer helps tone down the overall rose scent.  But the rose definitely comes through stronger...at least to my nose.  Knowing how you and I pick up the scent profile of BTRC Black Velvet, it wouldn't surprise me if you pick up more Conifer than Rose on the Shannon's  Big Grin
You da man!  Thanks friend.

Today I used the tallow formula of AoS Sandalwood. That is one great soap. Fortunately, I loaded up on a few pucks before they changed the formula.

The other day I read about a shaver who got a full brush of lather after only a dozen swirls from his tub of Martin de Candre. Curious to see what sort of measly lather this shaver was satisfied with, today I lightly passed my Solar Flare synthetic over the surface of this 200g jar of Vétyver twelve times. Though I could hardly see any soap at all in the brush, I took it to my chops and started to work up an emulsion, having little faith for anything useful. Almost immediately I got a thick paste as dry as sand and as stiff as cold cream cheese. Ten times I went to the tap and filled my brush with warm water. Ten times the lather drank it down, growing smoother and more voluminous with each draught. In a couple minutes I had enough fragrant, slick lather for four passes. It was gorgeous stuff, dense beyond belief, and as slippery as it was protective. Then I kicked myself for having been so profligate with my loading in the past. To think I once choked my brush with sixty swirls or more. At that rate I could have squandered the whole jar in five years. Now that I know better, I’m certain of a top rate soap that will keep me in suds for at least a decade.

Vétyver v. (Martin de Candre) bright vetiver

Now fourteen shaves into this jar of soap, I’m picking up the pungent side of Vétyver at last. I bought this tub on b/s/t from a shaver who acquired it in 2016. After four years in the bottle, the fragrance, at least on the outer edges of the puck, had grown faint. The deeper I delve, though, the more robust it becomes. Today I started to note the deep smoky vetiver Lipripper660 extolled a few days back. It’s very nice, not particularly dirty, but rich. Another good argument for loading this soap heavy.
