Vétyver v. (Martin de Candre)
bright vetiver
The other day I read about a shaver who got a full brush of lather after only a dozen swirls from his tub of Martin de Candre. Curious to see what sort of measly lather this shaver was satisfied with, today I lightly passed my Solar Flare synthetic over the surface of this 200g jar of Vétyver twelve times. Though I could hardly see any soap at all in the brush, I took it to my chops and started to work up an emulsion, having little faith for anything useful. Almost immediately I got a thick paste as dry as sand and as stiff as cold cream cheese. Ten times I went to the tap and filled my brush with warm water. Ten times the lather drank it down, growing smoother and more voluminous with each draught. In a couple minutes I had enough fragrant, slick lather for four passes. It was gorgeous stuff, dense beyond belief, and as slippery as it was protective. Then I kicked myself for having been so profligate with my loading in the past. To think I once choked my brush with sixty swirls or more. At that rate I could have squandered the whole jar in five years. Now that I know better, I’m certain of a top rate soap that will keep me in suds for at least a decade.
