I'm a fan of Declaration Grooming although the new bas name Milksteak is perhaps just a touch odd. This soap, After the Rain has always intrigued me. It's a nod to the scent of a forest after the storm has passed and has notes of wet pine, muted lavender, cedar, white pepper. I love forests and absolutely love storms so a scent like this seemed right up my alley. Well, it still meets with my approval but misses the mark for a forest after a storm. What it is though is a great lavender for gent who think they don't like lavender. I wouldn't call it subdued but muted might be better. The grandest note in the accord is the lavender but its like the sharper top notes have been sanded smooth. The pine is there but clear back in the jump seat. The two together are lovely. As for cedar and pepper? My nose can't discern either one but perhaps these are what rounds out the lavender. All in all I was disappointed not to get the “washed “ forest scent but as a lavender lover it's just a matter of adjusting expectations and all is right with the world. (But if any of you know of a rain washed forest scent I have some money to throw at it).

Whenever I go to shave, I assume there’s someone else on the planet shaving, so I say “I’m gonna go shave, too.”
