GROOMING DEPT Kairos 3.3

Addendum to my SOTD post for 20 Jan 20.....

Was asked about the Kairos 3.3 lather and it sounded like more than the description was wanted!

Like I said, it’s like a thick yoghurt, and perfect every time.  This was lathered against my hand!

Cheers!

Clay Face

Vétyver v. (Martin de Candre) bright vetiver

The other day I read about a shaver who got a full brush of lather after only a dozen swirls from his tub of Martin de Candre. Curious to see what sort of measly lather this shaver was satisfied with, today I lightly passed my Solar Flare synthetic over the surface of this 200g jar of Vétyver twelve times. Though I could hardly see any soap at all in the brush, I took it to my chops and started to work up an emulsion, having little faith for anything useful. Almost immediately I got a thick paste as dry as sand and as stiff as cold cream cheese. Ten times I went to the tap and filled my brush with warm water. Ten times the lather drank it down, growing smoother and more voluminous with each draught. In a couple minutes I had enough fragrant, slick lather for four passes. It was gorgeous stuff, dense beyond belief, and as slippery as it was protective. Then I kicked myself for having been so profligate with my loading in the past. To think I once choked my brush with sixty swirls or more. At that rate I could have squandered the whole jar in five years. Now that I know better, I’m certain of a top rate soap that will keep me in suds for at least a decade.

If you hadn't written this Bouki I'd have never believed it.  Perhaps I don't know nearly as much about loading soaps as I think I do. And the bit about running out of soap too soon is a gem!

Like many things in this hobby there is usually a few factors and variables when loading and we shouldn't forget it's not a crime to go back to the puck between passes. Smile)

Bouki; Twelve swirls and a lather?  I too wondered exactly what kind of crappy lather the gents that load for minimal time were willing to shave with so your post was intriguing.  We all know you know what lather can and should be so….. I took the remaining MdC vetiver sample I had and mashed it into a bowl to approximate the diameter of a jar of soap, wet my Teton Shaves synthetic brush, made 15 swirls because my diameter was a bit undersized, and took it to my face.  The Teton brush has a superb synth knot that holds water like a badger so even squeezed out I didn't have to go back for more water but, surprised as I was it built lather.  Not a junk lather either.  It wasn't as slick as my first use of this sample but neither was it really poor.  Amazing.  I'll be messing around with this concept on several soaps to see if I have been grossly overloading them.  Hey, I know I overload ok!  And frankly won't stop overloading because I love the way a shave feels when I'm going to wash half my lather down the drain.  Wow!  I would have never tried this except for your post Bouki.  Oh, and that vetiver scent!

Ah! Rose.  The most difficult of scents to get done well.  I was reading the profile on Shannon's site yesterday and this one intrigues.  Can you report on the scent?  How powerful is the Rose compared to the conifer note?
