THERE IT IS! After three days of goofing with this WCS Chypre I finally found the sweetness. I've tried several Oleo Soapworks offerings in the past and was totally underwhelmed. Don't know if you've noticed but I really don't like bad-mouthing artisan offerings that aren't working for me especially when reviews show its working well for others. I thought this most awesome of scents was going to the PIF pile but last night as I cruised through reviews of Oleos canard base, and seeing so many 5 star impressions, I resolved to figure it out. What went through my mind was my own advise to others, that most soap issues are solved by loading more soap. So this morning I hit the puck with a badger/boar mixed knot 28mm for a full 2 minutes. I thought that I'd then add dribblets of water a bit at a time with a razor stroke/wet finger test to see if I was building any slickness. I lathered my face to where I thought "a bit dry" was and took a stroke with the razor, wetted a finger, and drug it across the shaved skin. SLICK! Sure, I'll mess around with it some more but I'm pretty sure I'll find that in my hard water I need to load a ton of soap and not over hydrate as it doesn't appear to be very thirsty. Karve D plate with a brand new Personna Lab Blue (the new ones are sharper than the older style) and the soap made the blade mind it's manners. Great shave finally with an awesome scent.
Shaved with a WCS soap today to see if I might help out Lipripper660...but he went and figured it out on his own
(and to be fair, mine had too much water today and wasn't the best lather)

Cubebe v. (Saponificio Varesino) woody amber
On the mainland for a few days I rediscovered just how cold porcelein can get. My hat goes off to all you northern shavers and your steady hands. The chilly shakes have been the cause of a couple nicks, and the splash of aftershave really threw a frisson down my spine. I had to reach for a warm soap. Cubebe has been my one and only lather for the last ten days. I didn't really think I was built for a long-term relationship, but I'm happy to write that we've been getting along very well. It offers a rich melange of spice, wood, and amber, frightfully delicious for this time of year. It's a mite strong for the hot summer months, but it's pleasant and warming in a cold winter bath.

Had an amazing shave with GD Pekin. Now that’s its winter this will be back heavily in the rotation. This is such a great base. The conditioning this gives to my skin is off the charts. After 36 hours post shave which included a face washing at night and a shower the following morning I can still feel the difference in my skin.
