I suppose a name like Maya should conjure up images of tropical Yucatan, and the label surely points me that way, but when I take a whiff of the soap what I really get is the smell of coffee grinds steeped in beet juice.
Enjoyed reading your description! Smile I wasn’t sure how I felt about Maya when I first smelled the dry soap, but I find that the scent really opens up when lathered. In the wet lather, I mainly pick up the allspice, coffee and orange. The aftershave is even brighter than the lathered soap, and I much enjoy using the set. But I can definitely understand that this is one of those scents that may not be for everybody.

As usual, the performance and scent of Chypre Rose Concerto provided immense enjoyment. Such a bright and beautiful scent to complement an amazing soap base!

Clay Face
Honolulu, Hawaii
Oxford & Cambridge t. (Czech & Speake) lavender & mint

With temperatures and humidity both in the 90s, it's time to bring out the big guns. Hot, wet weather does a number on my hide. I need all the protection I can get. Summer skin craves tallow, and of all the tallow soaps on my shelf, Oxford & Cambridge is the surest defense against blade burn. It's heavy on clay, so there's great slip, but that same clay also mutes the scent. The mint's not quite as sharp and clear as it is in the O&C edt. In its place I'm getting some oak moss that makes for a dark elegant lavender even if it is a little on the earthy side.

Do you have Stirling Nag Champa? I find the two scents to be nearly identical...which is good because that scent is definitely awesome!

Barrister & Mann - Fireside

It has been close to 2 years since I last used Fireside. It's my only white-label B&M product and I was pleasantly reminded of it's lather-ability. A big reason I set is aside was because I LOVE the scent - a smokey/boozey type fragrance - and I knew it wasn't being made anymore. But, on top of the smoke, I noticed today a faint whiff of anise. Which, once combined with the smokey/boozey fragrances, turned the lather into a lightly scented Jagermeister. Not sure how I feel about this yet - maybe I enjoy those nights with friends...or maybe I remember the morning after Sick
