Viking Soap & Cosmetic Ironside

Glad to see that Viking Soap & Cosmetic (Viking)  has been restocking and expanding their selection lately. Ironside is a fairly subtle, yet classy and masculine scent — very enjoyable. Another highlight of this soap for me is the pleasant post-shave feeling.

Anne Bonny v. (Dr. Jon's Shaving Soap Co.) tea, lime, bay

Anne Bonny smells like a good strong cuppa at first, but once the lather forms, the tart, astringent aroma of West Indies bay comes through in buckets. Though a wholly vegan formula, the soap gives excellent slip and deep cushion, and today I had a perfect three-pass shave. I finished with a bay rum aftershave balm by Gilbert Henry. Stuff's pricey but it works wonders, and I like how it handles its orange note: not too fresh, not too sweet. It's also worked some magic on my wife's nose. A year ago she couldn't stand bay rum. Now whenever I crack this open, she comes creeping from the far corners of the house to get a sniff.

It's not a daily driver but once,in awhile I,want to smell woodsmoke. This is not my Idaho pine/fir/aspen kind of scent. It's sharper and a little acrid, almost like someone threw some sagebrush on the fire. It's manly and different and awesome. Strong scent but it doesn't linger much longer than an hour and even then only enough that I can smell it. (No projection or sillage). Stirling soap is way more awesome than they get credit for. It's easy to make fantastic lather with Stirling and is often the soap I give to make sure they are creating good lather from the get-go.

Today, I was in a hurry so went with Stephan's Stay Smooth Conditioning Shave Cream (brushless). I hate to admit it, but no shaving soap gives me a close a shave as easily as Stephan's. It just is too good!
