I’ve never understood the difficulty some have with slickness on DR Harris soap or the statement of them being middle of the road. I feel they are well above average and when you add the awesomeness of an old school English perfume house scent? Well, let’s just say I’m a fan. Marlborough today. Loaded looong. Lather is low structure and creamy. Not as slick as say Stirling but still very slick and wow that cedar scent! Only thing better is Windsor or Arlington. I wonder if fells just don’t load long enough? I have HARD water and it performs marvelously. Hard puck. Really hard. Load it long.

Bay Rum t. (Barrister & Mann) orange, cinnamon, West Indies bay, benzoin

There's a lot of orange in this bay rum. A pinch of anise would turn it into wassail, that simmering spiced fruit juice traditionally served to kids and carolers on Christmas Eve. Today I decided to play up this soap's fruitiness by splashing on some of Barberry Coast's Kingston aftershave. It's "inspired by the heart of Jamaica," but I don't think Bob Marley, Ian Fleming, or Calico Jack ever smelled like this. I get plum jam, melons, and tropical flowers. My wife would love to wear it to a luau. It goes on smooth, but to be honest, it's not very exciting and it hardly warms your skin. Still looking for a little zing, I finished with a dash of St Johns Bay Rum aftershave. Now that juice will give you the searing, singeing heat that numbs your chops and puts a smile on your sun-toasted face.

[Aventus Version - forget the name]

Simply lovely. Nice fragrance. Not an exact match to Aventus, but integrated well and lasted the whole shave. I am a 'dry loader'. Brush moist and puck dry - i get a good paste going on the puck, and then moisten on my face by dipping the tips of my brush as I face lather. This stuff is creamy! Low profile and dense - almost like a cold cream. Reminds of oil of olay. Great post shave feel - right up there with Mystic Waters. Reminds me of MW and B&M the way it lathers and finishes. Well worth a sample gents. I look forward to an unscented version.

Shave well. [Image: 3bd2f4ca069483c1d2bd3aac072f8c30.jpg]

First time I've used it after hearing so much about it. Good stuff.

So far in the massive soap buy - I'll be honest, there were a few excellent soaps, and by excellent I mean easy to lather and gave me a great shave, and they all had one thing in common. C&S 88, C&S Oxford & Cambridge... and Valobra Fougere.
