Phoenix and Beau Star Noir

Star Noir – a soap in honor of David Bowie. I really should put this one to use more often, not just around the anniversaries of Bowie’s birth and passing. Initially (a little over two years ago), this soap had an odor issue. The brand new soap had the smell of ammonia accompanying the intended scent. Kerry of P&B instructed me to leave it uncovered for a good amount of time. I think it ended up being uncovered for several weeks – I wanted to be on the safe side. After that, I’ve had no issues, and enjoy the performance and scent of the soap now.

Tùlach Àrd v. (Calani Seifenmanufaktur) ★★★★☆ sweet green turf

I don't see tallow listed in the ingredients, but this soap makes a beefy foam that's just as thick and cushioning as any animal fat soap I've ever dipped a brush into. I'd use Tùlach Àrd more often if I could find a whole puck, but Calani seems to have stopped making it. A pity, since it smells green and clean like a diluted version of Creed's Irish Tweed. My sample of this soap is old but I can still pick out some citrus, violet, and sandalwood. The name, Tùlach Àrd, comes from the TV show Outlander. It's the battle cry of the clan MacKenzie. It means something like "The High Hills," a fitting moniker for a soap that so easy makes a thick peaky lather.
