What soap/cream did you use today?

Bon Vivant (Declaration Grooming) everything but the sink

This is another collaboration with Chatillon Lux, who supplied the fragrance for this soap. Notes include "caramel, birch tar, black pepper, maple syrup, vanilla, patchouli, neroli, petitgrain, yuzu, ginger, anise, juniper berry, white grapefruit, wormwood and coriander." It's the wormwood that I smell most prominently, followed by the maple syrup, and ginger. There's some bitter orange in the mix too. After just one shave, I'm not sure if this complex scent is a medley or a mess. Although it's warm, a bit smokey, and certainly not off-putting, it seems to lack structure and focus. I'm getting mostly base notes with a medicinal overlay.  It's quite different from all CL's other fragrances and from everything else on my shelf.

There are no problems with the lather. The soap comes out of the tub nearly as soft as a cream and then whips into a lotionlike emulsion.

Floris Verbena shaving soap (tallow). A wonderful old 'green' soap, making great lather.
