Absinthe (Lisa's Natural Herbal Creations) ★★★★☆ cinnamon & amber
Lisa's tawny lather is magnificent. It's as thick and as wet and as slick as any other soap on my shelf. The finish is perfect, soft without being greasy, even on a hot summer day. I'd be lighting fireworks for having found another excellent soap, if it weren't for two quirks.
First, Lisa's premium soap comes in an itty-bitty 2½" tub. If I were loading a toothbrush, that would be perfect, but a shaving brush requires more real estate. I guess I could scoop the soap into another tub, but that's a mess, and it's a pity to waste a nice PET jar with its well designed waterproof labels.
And then there's the scent. Absinthe is a spirit traditionally flavored with anise, fennel, wormwood, and herbs. When I ordered the soap, I thought I would get at least one of these notes in this soap's lather. Instead, I got a mighty blast of cinnamon followed by a wave of soft amber. Now, I've never been sensitive to cinnamon, as many shavers are, but this lather put the tingles in my cheeks. It's not a bad scent, but it's strong, and right now this soap's more spice cake than absinthe.
I'm hoping the cinnamon will eventually tone down. I think there's some nice anise, fennel, and herbs buried under it. Until then, I'll be dipping my brush into another of Lisa's flavors since the soap base is so remarkably good.

Bouki I always look forward to reading your description of the soap you use each day. Very nice and detailed.
Lisa's NHC premium is indeed a great soap base. I have Somali Rose and it is a very nice scent but somehow the rose gets a little lost in all the rest of the scent components similar to the issue you describe. I also get a tingle if the soap gets near the base of my nostrils.
I found Lisa's tub to be a perfect size for a travel soap. You have to pick your brush carefully. I used a Razorock 400 for a recent trip and it worked out perfectly--this is a synthetic (for travel--my only one) and the bristles do not splay. I was able to load from the tub easily. I like the fact that I am getting through this tub proportionately quicker due to its size.
It may be of interest to you that you can reach out to Lisa via email and request a particular scent. She is very accessible.
