Van Yulay Soap of the Gods Achilles
Loading from the rather small and flimsy sample container posed no problems, but I did begin with very light swirls because of the patterned soap. The soap loaded very quickly onto the brush, and also lathered easily on the face. There was a very slight sensation of heat on the skin soon after, but the sensation went away quickly, and I was able to enjoy the nice lather and scent of Achilles.
The manufacturer’s notes for the scent are: “Tobacco with the perfect amount of Kentucky bourbon, hints of cherry, notes of vanilla, of rosewood, cedar, smoke, and sweet birch.” I like the scent of the soap a little more than the aftershave. To me, the aftershave reminds me of a sweet version of the scent of autumn leaves. To me, the soap — in a pleasant way — brings into the mix what lies underneath those leaves.
Whenever I go to shave, I assume there’s someone else on the planet shaving, so I say “I’m gonna go shave, too.”
