Windsor (D. R. Harris) ★★★★★ citrus, pepper, vetiver
Windsor is the only puck of shaving soap I’ve turned entirely into bubbles. Now nothing is left but sweet smelling slivers at the bottom of the wooden bowl. The scent is a faultless blend of light citrus notes resting on just enough pepper, rose, and vetiver to give the fragrance roundness and depth. It’s bright, clean and buoyant. If a perfect day under sail could be made into a fragrance, this would be it.
The soap performs well, with enough slickness and protection for three carefree passes. But the lather leaves some tallow behind after the last rinse. An hour after you’re done shaving, your face may feel a little waxy. On a cool day, it’s not an unpleasant sensation. In warmer weather, you may wish the lather were as clean as the scent.
