Why can't we get a decent $5.00 lunch anymore?

Why can't we put a man on the moon?

Something is wrong.........

The expensive artisan razors aren't remotely related other than holding a DE blade; whether such quality razors are required is a different matter.

I honestly would like to know how are they different from this old TTO (?) adjustable Gillette? I have used an old Gillette TTO many decades ago so I am familiar with them but I have only seen pictures and reviews of the modern adjustable DE's.

Thanks in advance for your response.

For one, 3xxSS,Ti, Cu&c vis-a-vis pot metal.

For another, precision CNC machining and quality control

Stipulated: it is unnecessary to have quasi exotic metal and precise engineering to get a decent shave; particularly so if one has middling features beard growth and skin. But it sure as Hell is nice to handle a solid tight tolerance razor instead of one built to a price, whether perfectly aged or rebuilt

I don't know this for a fact but I am guessing that the old Gillette razor was cast brass (not "pot metal") then plated. Please correct me if I am wrong. I know that they did not have Zamac back in the day.

Point was that the materials, production and machining are vastly superiour. Again, whether it necessary depends on one's special needs and preference.

Got it. Thanks.

Just musing but it seems to me that if you mass produce using a casting process with quality metals it is going to result in a product that costs far less than doing one at a time CNC machining, etc. I don't know about the trade off with S.S. v. plated brass in terms of strength and durability. I presume that the SS is more dent resistant. However I don't know if machined aluminum is softer than plated brass?

My experience with the few classic TTO Gillettes used is that, even when completely refurbished, the blade edge still felt as if it vibrating. No adjustment setting would alleviate the perception of vibrating. Also it gave an impression of vagueness to the hand; even the best toggles felt so.
