Exactly — that’s a very good question.

Having followed some of the public discussion in the media for the last several years, it has become clear to me that the truth is of secondary importance to a lot of people. They are not willing to do research, nor would they accept their findings, because their mind has already been made up.

I’m afraid my comment is drifting into unwanted territory here on DFS (and I very much want to do my part to keep this a positive forum), so I will just conclude by saying that the link I posted in my previous comment leads to the most current reading anyone can find on some of the history of PAA, and anyone who has a compelling need to repeat age-old rumours should first give that thread a careful read.

Unfortunately most people do not really want to know "the truth", they want to find confirmation of what they think they already know.

The truth is that the majority of the accusations against Hidges/Smythe are completely unfound d and inaccurate. The ironic situation of accusing a vendor of being dishonest when the accusations themselves are what is dishonest.

I am always amused when people get so upset over the self interview. I wonder how these folks feel about character actors, clowns, mascots, etc... Douglas Smythe is a character...

Frankly, gentlemen, I think the discussion of the honesty/dishonesty of Mr. Smythe has been beaten to death.  From Mr. Smythe's own admission here there is truth on both sides.  Either buy his products or don't but let's move on and see how the man uses his second chance.  From what I've seen here he's doing a pretty darn good job (which is more than I can say for some of our politicians on both sides of the aisle Tongue ).

I just used the Otra aftershave today and I love it. Seriously considering getting the full bottle with matching soap. I have this scent in the deodorant, but never use it because it just didn't work for me.

I'm not a fan of the soaps, but those aftershaves are the best. Speakeasy, Sandalwood, and CaD. Just got in Aqua D and Aqua D/G which are awesome too.

BST only. This man interviewed himself as 2 different people, that alone means he either has serious mental problems ( must be from the CIA lol) or he is a huge liar. Either way there has been too many problems for me to want to do business with him.

No disrespect for anyone that buys his products and incourages this bad behavior and business practices.

You might want to check out the post http://damnfineshave.com/thread-paa-gene...5#pid75675 and the conversation following it.

I don’t know him personally, and I’m assuming neither do you, but if you read his post and the comments that follow, perhaps you can find it in your mind to at least give him the benefit of the doubt.

(Or not — obviously the decision is yours to make. It just gets so old whenever Phoenix Artisan Accoutrements or Hodges/Smythe is mentioned, and somehow people feel the need to bring up some old matters, like we all haven’t already read about them a hundred times before.)

Well said. Some people are angry or simply don't believe in forgiveness or second chances. However, what is really sad is that most of the things he is accused of are not even true. I do believe in forgiveness and I did express that PAA/HTGAM/PFF/Crown King do make some nice products. The point I was trying to make is that most people give money to a company without knowing about their business practices. And there are those that just don't care about it. He did admit that it was his own greed that caused some of the drama, any publicity is good publicty.

In short, I do like the products just can't overlook the number of bad decisions.

I wasn't singling you out. I actually have looked into all of the allegations, and found plenty of solid evidence that showed many of the rumors are false. However, I don't want to continue this since it's been beaten to death already. If some people feel uncomfortable buying from some artisans or merchants then they have the right not to. There is one merchant and one artisan that I no longer buy from, but I don't try to convince others to avoid them, nor do I attack them in threads on this forum.

I agree that some of the rumors are false, but not all of them or he wouldn't have opologized thru a text message. AND since I feel uncomfortable doing business with PAA I am just expressing my opinion (which I thought online forums were created for) I did not attack Douglass/Hodges/Frances or whatever, or convince others to not buy his products. It seems like I have to keep repeating this I DO LIKE THEIR PRODUCTS, there are just way too many people worshiping the ground he walks on without knowing the numerous business mistakes he has made. Yet no other soapmaker has done. My intention is to edcutate people, not to drag this man thru the dirt (which has been his own doing)

Okay, you've done that; thank you.  Now let's get this thread back on topic which is What's your favorite soap by PAA?
