What's the deal with Haslinger?

Sheep wins in my book. But I get my sheep tallow and lanolin from Stirling. I was going to say wait till Bruce sees this thread and he will post, but I see he already did.

That said where are you getting them for 4.50 other then that European store that then takes so long to ship.

TVB Shaving, but you have to max out the lowest tier shipping. So it means ordering 8-9 pucks (I forget).

That's in Europe I can order them for $9ish with free shipping from states.

Haven't tried it. Don't really want 8 or 9 just to get the lowest price per unit, but it's good to know it's an option.

I'm not saying I wouldn't try a puck if they were available somewhere I normally buy from. Seems like a good add on to reach a free shipping tier or just for the heck of it if I'm already placing an order.

I'm interested in other soaps that I'd like to try first.

With summer around the corner, I will be using soaps I find drier post shave. So if and when I ever pick up some Haslinger it most likely won't be until Fall or Winter. I don't need lanolin most of the time, and really don't like it when it's hot out. Veggie soaps work better with my skin in the warmer months.

Maggards, Italian barber, and west coast shaving have haslinger.

Surprised I don't hear more praise. Haslinger is an exceptional soap for me that I place among the best performers. As has been mentioned I don't find the scents to be amazing, but they aren't repulsive, and at least to me, they smell nothing like diapers as was mentioned above. I would just say the scents are faint.
As previously mentioned, the soap can hold an awful lot of water. For those who seemed to find it was lacking in slickness, add a bit more water next time and I think you'll be surprised at what happens.
Anyway, to each his own, but for me Haslinger is an outstanding shaving soap.

It's a small 60 gram refill puck wrapped in plastic. To get the nice price one has to wait 5-10 days, at most, from Europe. I order from places like TVB & Connaught all the time. So much cheaper than US vendors. It's not a softer artisan soap so your actually getting the grams/oz you order without all that croap water. Sounds like a lot of gents can't figure out the water ratio. One needs to incorporate a lot of water...great slickness. Haslinger uses gentle scents in a world of over scented colorful labeled artisans. I couldn't walk into work with the strong scents from some artisan these days. Two pucks cut & pressed or grated into the wonderful IKEA stainless tins may not be as pretty as the Nuavia crocs I own but, to me, it's the finest modern soap made today.

I have a Wolfman and it is a beautiful razor. Almost an art form. The shaves I get from my Webers and even Progress/Mergress are simply better. I think of Haslinger in the same way. It's a tool to great shaves.

I am fully aware that you can't judge a lather simply by the way it looks, and there is no way for you to know whether or not a lather would work well for you simply by looking at a photograph. However, the photo below is Haslinger Ringelblumen lathered to my preferences (read loaded heavily and well hydrated). I know these aren't everyone's preferences but if you like a thick while simultaneously slick lather Haslinger can deliver. If you didn't give it a fair shot, try it again!!!

I tried their coconut and sage. The coconut smelled like a diaper and the sage smelled like a soapy diaper. I am happy for those that are like this soap, but I just cant get past the scent.

Instant Gratification. For many, if its not on the doorstep in two days, then it doesn't get bought. Such is 2016.

Haslinger uses gentle scents in a world of over scented colorful labeled artisans.  I couldn't walk into work with the strong scents from some artisan these days.  

For many, that sounds out of step with the current times. But it's soap, its washes off. There should be zero scent left over for any soap, especially if you use some AS or ASB? Scent is of course personal. For some, scentless or weak scented soaps are boring ....

Pretty picture. Crank up the contrast and get in close. Distant pictures smoothed out are pretty but don't really show what is going on.

But I have no issue with it. I thought it was fine - I said "good", just there were better. I can see now that if you go for the cheapest price and buy in bulk, the price can go down. But I would never buy 6 or 8 tins of anything. I can't get into this hoarding thing. But thats just me. Life is too short to restrict oneself to one product only.

I think my real question has been answered. I think its probably been around for some time, has gotten some recent play, and then the herd mentality takes over. Perhaps next year a new product will be discovered and become the current fad?

I didn't get the diaper analogy, was a #2 involved?  That could make a difference in scent, even on a wet diaper.

I agree haslinger lathers like a beast - lots of lather with minimal effort.

I think the comment was likely aimed at the light, powdery scent of unused diapers. But even then, I don't find them similar in scent.
