What is the definition of an Artisan?

Just because you read something on the internet doen't mean it's true, does it ?

Because someone writes a post, where he implies SV is not artisane, does it really make them less artisan ?

Exactly my point and why I asked the original question.

SV is an artisan, period. GFT is no long, at least for creams. Yet people call Brand XYZ artisan or non-artisan without seemingly knowing the facts. I did not know that T&H, which is quite large for the industry, does not make their own products. And the same will be true for LPL. If he outsources the production, then he was the original artist, but no longer an artisan.

But people will use words as they think and think "artisan" = "good" which simply is not true. It appears only to mean skilled craftsman. Similarly, there can be skilled mechanics, and they are artisans in the craft of mechanical arts, but some are good and some not so good.

I would not consider a mechanic an artisan at all. Mechanical arts? That's a stretch if you ask me.

I can believe that. A mechanic works with his hands at a craft. Try finding a good auto mechanic and cherish them.  There are more mechanics than just "auto" mechanics. Mechanics work on anything mechanical. But, the are still artisans, merely a distinct subset of artisan separate from "simple" artisans.

So now we're redefining the word mechanic? I believe that an artisan is somebody who makes something. A mechanic fixes things. Yes, they use their hands to practice a "craft" (if you want to take it that far), but who doesn't use their hands at work. So now is the postman an artisan because he delivers the mail by hand and plies his craft in the "postal arts"? I'm kidding of course...

....So it looks like my premonition from last week came true. A company called Stork from Belarus has begun producing razor handles that are a knockoff of Wolfman handles, and people on another forum are starting to flip out about it. I say that anyone who has a problem with these handles better not own a soap "inspired by" anyone else, lest they be labeled a hypocrite....

Wow, are these actually knockoffs? Do they simply look like Wolfman handles or are they marketing them as cheapo versions?
