I would not consider a mechanic an artisan at all. Mechanical arts? That's a stretch if you ask me.

Rock crawlers, lo-riders, custom hot rods, rat rods, NASCAR, stock cars, dragstsers, classic restorations, resto-mods, custom moderns, and custom classics. The guys and gals that build these cars from the ground up are artists and artisans, in the truest sense of both words. Everything from custom metal fabrication to upholstery and paint...

Mechanics go FAR beyond simple repair of worn out engines and replacing dead components. And the very short list above doesn't begin to scratch the surface when you realize how vast the field of mechanics and mechanical engineering really goes...

^^^^^ We all know what we are exposed to. But there are "artists" in the automotive industry. Those that style vehicles. The engineers that design engines and engine sounds. And there are artisans that hand build cars.

I think we're taking 'artisan' to seriously. I dont make products, but offer services. What does that make me? I'm certainly no artisan. I suppose the person fixing (making) my tacos at Chipotle are artisans?
