I found this in an antique store in my town.  Didn't cost me much so I picked it up.  I'm not a straight razor guy, so I don't know jack about this stuff.

Junk?  Serviceable?  It has some rust spots that need to be cleaned up, but I don't know if it is worth it.

Thanks!

Full hollow square point. Looks like a 6/8.

The blade looks like it is starting to frown which will make shaving more difficult without repairing the edge. It can most likely be done with some work, but you're going to have to get rid of the frown if you want to shave with it, is my guess.

Not a bad little cutter, if you're willing to put in the work to fix the edge, or if you can find someone skilled that would be willing to repair it for you.

I would offer to do it for the experience, but truth be told, it's a nice enough razor that it deserves a chance to be repaired properly by someone that already knows what they are doing, rather than being hacked at by someone like me that is just trying to learn as I go...

Sheffield is world famous for their baldes, and Joseph Elliott is a well-recognized name in the game, so you did well there...

The scales look like ivory or at least faux ivory - depending on vintage they could be actual ivory. I can't tell from here Smile

Thanks gents.  I'm just trying to figure out if it's worth repairing.  If not, I just clean it up real good and just display it :-)

If you want to shave with it, it is worth repairing. The blade looks to need a little cleaning and that frown fixed, and you'll be good to go. The frown will take some effort, but the actual cleanup does not appear to be all that involved...

If you have no interest in shaving with it, clean up the blade with a Dremel and soft wire brush, and have a lovely display!

Thanks BadDad I'll do some research and see who wants to take a crack at it.

When looking at the front side of the blade(with the etching visible), you can see a worn spot on the spine. At the edge, in the same location, the bevel lifts up. It quite literally looks like the blade is making a sad face...like it's frowning...

It's not nearly as noticeable on the back side...

Hector, a frown is where the edge of a razor is not straight from heel to toe end. It's slightly concave. If you place the edge against a perfectly flat surface, the toe and heel end will touch, but you will be able to see daylight towards the centre where the edge is curving.
