What fragrance are you wearing today?

Timbuktu (L'Artisan Parfumeur) dried herbs, incense, resins

I've never cracked open a mummy, but if I ever do, I suspect it will smell like Timbuktu. This fragrance is dry, redolent of things that have lain in the sand for centuries wrapped in bitter herbs, incense, and desiccated woods. Parched citrus rinds and the hint of some aldehydes are the only thing that's perky here. They don't last long, but the incense and resins go on forever. Fruity and floral notes that played a part in earlier iterations of this fragrance have withered away to nothing in the current formulation.

Hi Petronius.  Similar, yes.  Identical, no.  When wearing most eau de toilettes I prefer an unscented aftershave but there are exceptions and this would be one.  I usually use the Floïd Blue Eau de Toilette with its aftershave counterpart or with Barrister and Mann's Reserve Cool aftershave, which is very similar to the Floïd Blue aftershave in scent.

Try Epsilon Mediterranean...more mentholated but with very similar scent profile.

Hermann à mes côtés me paraissait une ombre (Etat Libre d'Orange) budding flowers, rose, melon, frankincense, water, pepper, amber

If you like opening a florist's refrigerated display case just to get that cold, wet, flowery rush of air, you may like this fragrance very much. Hermann is a cool, transparent, floral aquatic held together with some clean frankincense and resins. It's as light as a cologne, but lasts much longer. After several hours it dries down into a familiar accord of wood and incense. Its long name comes from a poem by Victor Hugo. Translated into English it means something like "Hermann by my side seemed to me a shadow." This hints at something dark, but I don't get any shadows in this scent. It's more like a basket of roses and peasblossoms done in watercolors and then left in the rain.

Ore (Slumberhouse) wood, cocoa, unripe fruit, wax, candle wick

There's a point in this scent's progression when I was convinced that I was smelling a Crayola crayon. It was nostalgic, but not at all alluring. This strong waxy note clobbered everything for at least half an hour, until it softened up and melted in with the cocoa, wood, and green fruit. What resulted was a familiar smell, but I couldn't put my finger on it until the other day I dug up a dusty box of peach-scented candles we burned at our wedding reception, twenty-eight years ago.
