Not actually a straight razor.
It's a half of it.
It's wedge!!!

[font=Verdana, Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif]So I took a shot on a no name JNAT supposedly from Kyoto, and supposedly a fantastic razor finisher.

It’s dimensions are 7.5x2.5x1, and I figure what the hell, I hadn’t bought any stones in awhile!

Well color me impressed. The HHT was silent and lifeless all along the edge...root in...root out...it didn’t matter...just like the hair was falling across a laser!

I can’t wait to do the shave test later today!

Hmmmm...that’s a good question.  I only have one Escher, and multiple JNATs.  So I am probably not qualified to weigh in on the Escher vs JNAT edge question.

I think that I would say in terms of smoothness/comfortable shave, the best I have achieved has been on my 1st Generation Filarmonica 14 Doble Temple with the Escher Barbers Gem edge.

However, the new JNAT, without a pedigree, that I used on the Grelot 14 above, has been producing sharper edges that are ALMOST as smooth...as in it seems that the quality of lather would probably determine the better edge/shave for my tastes.

I also have been using the JNAT(Grelot 14, Old Sheffield, etc) above with a whisp of slurry for the final finishing strokes, and I use the Escher under running water for the final finishing strokes.

I guess I would say that if I have 1-2 days of growth, I would want a smoother edge over a sharper one, and prefer the Escher edge.  If I have 3+ days of growth I would want the JNAT edge that is sharper, but almost as smooth, because my face would handle the sharpness better, and it just simply wipes the hairs off.

I would be happy with either, because they both produce such beautiful edges, and you can do little tricks on either to tweak the edge to your tastes...Escher under running water to max out the sharpness while maintaining smoothness...slurry on JNAT to dumb down the sharpness and bump the smoothness....or vice versa.

I found the lightest hair I could on the brush...root in...root out...it didn’t matter...HHT was like slowly dropping the fine hair on a thin laser beam!  The shave with SCARGILL was fantastic!
