Playing around a bit with a stone that I never considered the best, a blue-green asagi, and a pair of Gold Monkeys were up. One was finished with slurry from a worn 1200 Atoma (really worn, lol), and the other with a tomo. This morning’s shave revealed that both edges were functionally the same and both were excellent edges. So the stone is better than I remember.
Hi Steve! Yes, I saw your set on BB...it’s beautiful and I was happy that you were the one to snag it off eBay!
The Engstrom is made of a harder steel, but not obnoxiously hard like my Tanifuji Cape 1000. I believe that the Engstrom took an amazing edge. It is pristine under the loupe, and the HHT was very interesting...just the slightest of touching the hair to the edge, and it fell silently...no plink...no feedback...nothing...exactly what one would want to be told from their HHT.
I am going to shave test the Engstrom later today or tomorrow....probably tomorrow, and I am really looking forward to it!
I like the way the JNATs look when they have a touch of green mixed in, and your set of GDs look great man!
