What are your disliked scents?

It has really been interesting to see the complete differences in our likes and dislikes. No wonder our artisans are able to produce such a plethora of scents so successfully, even if none of them is 100% loved.

Bay Rum has never been a big favourite of mine because the Clove is just to much.

In case you're not familiar with it, Captain's Choice Bay Rum is purposely made with NO clove! You're not alone in your dislike for clove.

I don't qualify to even comment on this thread because:
1. My background in scents is very recent and limited, and...
2. My age and sophistication level is indicated by the AS content of my cabinet, ie. Pinaud Clubman, Aqua Velva (the cold stuff), Mennen Skin Bracer and the Indian version of Old Spice (for its close resemblance to the old original formula out of NJ).

I'll not let those reasons stop me.however, and say that my inexperience may be an advantage in that I have never found a scent that I couldn't tolerate. Unless the scent was truly gross like that of decaying human flesh, I can put up with virtually anything! The lack of discernment might be explained by my ability to eat almost anything that various cultures consider edible. In my traveling days, I could sit to the table with anyone and 'go native'! I was an atypical American traveller.

Hi beamon I agree with you - I've never found a scented shaving product that I hated although there are certainly several that I don't care for and that aren't suited to me IMO. I've always liked Mennen Skin Bracer original. In today's modern age where the rights of the individual seem to trump all, I've noticed that people with scent sensitivities (scentists) are starting to call the shots - at the rec centre I work out at there are signs in the locker room telling us to refrain from wearing colognes aftershaves and other scented products out of respect for these people. I'm wondering when the sign will be posted asking people to kindly wash their gym clothes and bodies regularly out of respect for those of us who are revolted by their BO! I've found that I more frequently encounter people who smell unpleasantly because of poor hygiene than excess cologne/perfume.

Freddy variety is the spice of life.  I think it also makes it hard for artisans to market their products because words are often inadequate to describe their products.  I'll see flower scents in the description and think, Oh, I won't like that and I don't try it.  A skilled scent-ologist can do amazing things.  For example I read the description of TFS Hercules soap and from the description I thought I wouldn't like it but I wanted to try the TFS LE series and ordered it anyway and surprise, I love it.  Go figure.  Same thing with MLS Italian Stallion, the description says no but the actual experience says oh yes.  Of course this means I have to go through life smelling everything or buying it and deciding after.  Not practical.  First world problems no doubt

You got that right, Mark! With today's modern plumbing and deodorant soaps, there's little excuse for running around smelling bad unless you're homeless and indigent. Those guilty of it seem to be unaware of how they smell. The few times in my life when I was guilty of being odoriferous, I knew it! A bathing facility was foremost in my mind.

Musk & Sandalwood

All evidence has been buried.  All tapes have been erased.

Case in point that scents are subjective. I love Meehan sandalwood and my vintage Old Spice Musk.

Just gotta jump back in as another fan of Bay Rum, though both versions I have and love are CLOVE-FREE (Captain's Choice and Barrister & Mann), so for clove-haters, there may be Bay Rum hope yet. I guess some people don't like this particular spiciness (must mostly come from the West Indian bay), but to me that's what's so appealing about it.

Oh, and going back to vapid, mainstream aroma-chemicals: sadly I detected one (dihydromyrcenol?) right in the middle of CRSW's Oliva. Blah. Had to give it away.

If a Bay Rum scent exists that I like it probably would be from B&M. Since it is clove free I may just have to buy a sample.

I keep a handful of the Bay Rums around as well. One of the only scents my wife actually likes a bit.

I am with DavidJames when it comes to Vegetal. It really is the only scent I have purchased in the last few years that made me go Yuckkkk. Reminded me of a urinal puck. I was also surprised by the amount of guys that don't like bay rum. I really like that stuff. My favorite was always the bay rum after shave put out by Burt's Bees unfortunately they don't make it anymore.
