What are your disliked scents?

My SWMBO likes Bay Rum too. Her father used to wear it.  

My Dad too which is likely one of the reasons I like it, that sense of nostalgia. In fact, I have the Dominica and Royall because I recall him having them on the shelf!

To all you haters of Bay Rum, thats fine, it just leaves more for those of us that truly appreciate it.  Actually I'm a little surprised how many people seem to dislike bay rum.  There must be a treatment for that disorder.

I really like Soap Commanders version Purpose. The scent reminds me of Coca Cola. I just recieved Dr. Jon's Anne Bonney in the mail yesterday and I pick up notes of the Rum, and Black Tea when I smell it. I'm going to use it this morning so maybe the Bay, and Lime will present themselve's.

Don't get me wrong...arko is slick and it's almost impossible to NOT create a good lather with it.  

The scent...ehhhhh.

I neither like nor dislike Arko. Sort of like the color beige or the taste of water.

Good lather though and I love the retro packaging.

Maybe there should be an ARKO sans scent. That might sell even better than the current with scent. After all, the first job of a soap is to facilitate the shave and few would argue that ARKO doesn't do that as well or better than any other.

wetshavingproducts WSP Blackbeard is more a riff on Bay Rum but performance is great and the scent, distant cousin to Mahogany, is fantastic.

Notes of tobacco, cherry, vanilla with a spicy/earthy undertone. They do add a sticker indicating inclusion of clove, which you can definitely pick up and I normally don't care for if strong in a Bay Rum however in this case, it works.

I cannot stand sandalwood. If it's a small component it's fine, but if it's the dominant scent, no thank you. It smells too much like electrical pulling lube (Ideal Yellow 77) to me. Strange association, but it's there for me, so it ruins the scent.

Let me put a little slider spin on this thread and say, as I already have, that I really don't have any scent that I cannot wear. That established, I wish for a greater amount of scent in nearly all of the soaps that I've tried. I'd like a greater feeling of being enveloped in the scent while shaving. Don't care for it to last beyond the rinsing because I seldom coordinate the AS scent with that of the soap. It's the AS scent that I want to linger longer.

I guess the essential oils and fragrance oils are a large part of the cost of the soap so I can see where they might be used sparingly, but gimme more scent and I'll pay a little more for it!

Flowers, can't get along with floral forward scents. Reminds me of a Grandma's house for some reason. I know that a lot of more complex scents have floral in them, which is fine. I just can't have a main note be flowery. Like Rose soaps, just can't do it. I really like lavender though.

I am also a big fan of the offensive Patchouli and Bay Rum scents. Not too much clove though, it can overpower in a heartbeat. Sandalwood and I have a strange relationship, some I love, others smell like a wet log. I know the Meehan stuff gets a good rep, but I just couldn't get along with it. I also love Catie's Bubbles Saturday Morning, which smells exactly like Froot Loops. That soap makes me smile every time I crack the lid. Not refined, not subtle, just unabashed breakfast cereal. But it makes me happy, and that's all that matters to me.

And Beamon, I'm with you on the stronger scents. I've got more than a few soaps that I truly wish were more potent.

sometimes some sandalwoods will turn me off. I will say though, I've taken a strong liking to them lately....especially in bath soaps.

Hmm. I don't like yellow 77 either but I don't get sandalwood from it.
