I noticed that our profiles contain a variable referred to a " warning level".  If this variable actually means something, I think it only fair  to [1] make sure people know this variable exist, and [2] provide as specific as possible what it means; e.g., X value gets you temporarily banned and Y means permanent banning.  I know it is likely to refer to a member's undesirable behavior, but if you are actually going to quantify this, the underlying parameters should be listed somewhere.

Just my 2 cents, but the act of banning can be very subjective and applied with a somewhat personal agenda in mind.

we haven't set up any parameters yet. if we do, we'll be sure to let everyone know.

The warning system is built into MyBB and the warning level is only visible to the profile owner and staff.. At the moment, its not actually possible to just send a friendly "heads up" - its just a warning Sad I also don't think a list is actually generated anywhere for members, but we can look into adding that if we reach the conclusion that a warnings system is necessary.

To me, it should be pretty clear what kind of activity would be unacceptable; causing discord, aggressive attitudes to other members, use of unacceptably strong language, that sort of thing.

Lee's point is well taken. I don't think any forum starts off hoping it will need a warning system; rather it's the opposite. For that reason, a site would hold off as long as possible before implementing one due to egregious behavior by one or more members.

Lee's point I agree is well taken. No forum intentionally wants to have a warning system but there those that like to disrupt a forum. When they do action(s) need to be taken.

I understand, and wholly agree, that these mechanisms are necessary to keep order.  My position is that it should be clearly known to people that they can assess their levels of warnings, and what each level signifies.  I would hate to see DFS go the way of BB a forum that absurdly touts its civility, when their treatment of members can be sudden, ill-tempered and result in banning.  Further, because much of the disciplinary process takes place privately [which it should] members do not get to see what will cause their warning levels to percolate.  Several reasons for disciplining are clear, but I know from personal experience that one can be blind-sided and left in a quandary asking oneself "what just happened"?

Anyway, I sense that the powers that be are not making this a priority, and so I will just sign off.  But thanks for listening.

Teddyboy , I think it isn't a prio not because we don't think its important, but because it's not something we really want to implement. The code is there, we just are not using it. Hopefully we won't have to.

I agree with what leefish said and I'd also like to add that we haven't brought up the warning level criteria with the membership of this site because we haven't set up a single parameter for the warning system. There's not much for us to bring up when nothing has been configured in the system.

We probably will remove the warning level indicator from the postbit area and replace it with something more useful until we feel we need to start using the warning system. right now we haven't had the need to set up and/or use the system yet.
