And if you read the descriptions of these memberships, they state that you get access to limited stuff. "Silver plan includes FREE shipping on all products and access to exclusive products". Also, the new K Shave Worx soap will only be available for diamond members. Might as well get that statement out of the membership descriptions if they will be available for everyone since it is no longer a perk.

Anyway, to stand by the side of the site owner, it was not his choice to make it available to everyone. Apparently tons of people gave Will flack for bit making it available to everyone. Peter had nothing to do with opening it up to non-member so I can't get mad at him for it.

B&M has too large of a loyal fan base, people will get upset if a product is not available for them.

Actually, Peter was just as much a part of the decision as I was. I suggested it to him, yes, in an attempt to alleviate some of the frustration, but he also agreed. He could just as easily have told me that he didn't want to do it. It's not like I held a gun to his head.

Yeah, the whole thing just ended up being much more of a headache for both parties. We decided that it was best to make a clean break, but we still had 108 jars of Passiflora, so we got rid of them and have offered a refund of the difference to anyone who bought it through The Club.

So then, let me reiterate that here: If you purchased Passiflora through The Club (Murrellington, goodsir, I am looking at you), I am happy to refund you the difference. Just shoot me a PM.

Hey Will, I hope it didn't seem like I was pointing the finger at you at all. I don't blame either of you for what happened. Peter just said that a bunch of people on Reddit were giving crap for the soap being limited to club members so it was offered to anyone as a result. He said "It wasn't my decision, I just went along with it". Perhaps he meant to say it wasn't his suggestion but he thought it was a good idea and rolled with it. In any case, what I meant by me sticking to Peter's side was that he wasn't trying to be malicious to paying club members by making it available to anyone, he was just trying to alleviate frustrations with those who didn't have access.

I commend both of you for trying and I doubt either of you predicted this outcome. It was a nice gesture for you to make a soap just for Peter and I know from speaking with him that he was very grateful for it. This is a classic case of you can't please everyone. Anyway, no refund needed. I was fine with paying $20 a piece when I bought them and asking for a refund is just putting salt in the would. The only part I was bummed about was originally joining a year subscription for an exclusive that became open to everyone the next day. Either way, you've both shown class and I'll continue to support you both in the future.

Moving on, can't wait to smell this bad boy.
I'd ask for a refund from Peter for the membership personally unless you plan on actually using it

Murrellington , this was absolutely a predictable result on the part of the 2 business owners.  Have you followed the shaving related drama, crises and general hand wringing over the past few years?  This model was a ticking time bomb.

Club schlub, in the words of W.C, Fields "I wouldn't belong to any club that would have me as a member." Not even for a shot at Passiflora.

Yeah well hindsight is always 20-20. The soap was cancelled and all stock sold at lower price. I think if they saw that coming, they would have never done it..

I have no ill will towards anyone on this. Had I known about it I probably would have bought some, but it didn't happen so maybe I'll have better luck next time. Its not like I'm in danger of running out of awesome soap any time soon. This is just guerrilla marketing practices that help generate buzz around a brand. I'll probably misquote him but I think Oscar Wilde said something like "the only thing worse than being talked about is not being talked about."

Marko, I believe it was Groucho Marx who said that.  I have heard, though I do not know for certain, it was said about country clubs that wouldn't admit Jews.  Marx was Jewish.

As for our best merchants, long may their success continue.  Finding a model for sales cannot be easy but I hope each of them finds a workable solution.  Finding a perfect solution, however, may take a wee bit longer. Winking

Here's a recap of this whole story, which I like to call... The Passiflora Horror.
