It's not Free shipping if the membership costs $40.

If I ever need to pay a membership to buy a product, I'll look elsewhere.

Then make it available to anyone. I saw several people join the club for this soap. All well, $40 down the drain.

That was my thought as well.

It happens with LE, Special Offerings of other products too though. I've seen and bought products that were going to be not available again, only to have them mass made a few months or a year later.

That's why a lot of people didn't buy the membership to get passiflora. I'm just saying your membership pays for more than just lording gear over other people. Which is literally what you guys are complaining about.

They're also adding more vendors daily. I've seen the number of soaps go from ~10 pages to 30 in the past 2 days. So I'd imagine they're still ramping things up.

Agon my point has nothing to do about lording gear over others. It's about marketing products as exclusive to get people to impulse buy and then making them widely available at a later date.

I don't like that practice from this vendor and many others who use it. They obviously feel a paid membership to buy and get free shipping is a money maker. Only time will tell if it's a viable one.

I agree, I don't like that practice either. But I think that's why they decided to do this now, since the service has only been going for a few days. Rather than after they'd roped a ton of people in. Who knows for sure though. But I don't plan on signing up for it either way.

Amazon prime memberships cost also and you get free shipping. So it basically is the same.

And if you read the descriptions of these memberships, they state that you get access to limited stuff. "Silver plan includes FREE shipping on all products and access to exclusive products". Also, the new K Shave Worx soap will only be available for diamond members. Might as well get that statement out of the membership descriptions if they will be available for everyone since it is no longer a perk.

Anyway, to stand by the side of the site owner, it was not his choice to make it available to everyone. Apparently tons of people gave Will flack for bit making it available to everyone. Peter had nothing to do with opening it up to non-member so I can't get mad at him for it.

B&M has too large of a loyal fan base, people will get upset if a product is not available for them.

I agree with a lot of the sentiments on both sides. I think the risk here is alienating customers. And of course this was just demonstrated by the B&M passiflora release. This is not really the same as Amazon prime IMO. Amazon prime is a service with many benefits access to music, movies/tv, shipping discounts, digital storage, etc. This membership IMO, is going to exclude community members. Maybe the wet shaving community is big enough to support this, but it seems like most of us participate across multiple forums, YT, etc. By creating a wall to keep people out (even if that is not the intent) it has a high likelihood of creating bad blood. So I think the future here is uncertain. If it were just a shipping perk, why not do it like Maggards? You can pay $20 for 6 months for "free" shipping- which if you order a lot of smaller orders is a good deal. But they don't refuse to sell products to the rest of us who don't want to pay. And Maggards seems to be very well liked (and I assume making money) by just about everyone.
Time shall tell I guess.

My two cents: I like Wetshaving as a hobbyist. I buy a LOT of soap, and I'm not afraid to spend on a product. However, I won't spend money on nothing, and locking this soap behind a paywall was exactly that. I'm Canadian - free shipping does not apply. There would be exactly no perks to a club membership. Glad to see that the soap will be available now, and I'm signing off from this thread (though I'll still buy if someone ends up not liking it!).

Edit - mobile grammar

How did I never notice unlimited free shipping at Maggard for $20? That's equivalent to the club yet Maggard has a million products. I think it's too hard to compete with Maggard these days.

Equivalent? Price, yes. But no products locked behind garden walls Wink

The sad part is, B&M fans are pissed because they couldn't get it from Will, and club members are pissed because their exclusivity just blew up (not to mention those that just recently signed up "for nothing"). It sucks for both businesses... And sometimes, it seems, you just can't win.
