TNNSER 3D printed SE razor

I got my shapeways tnnser in the mail today before I left for work.

I used the fine detail plastic for the base plate and top cap and the versatile plastic for the handle.  everything looks very well printed, even the cheaper versatile plastic handle.  I threw everything in my book bag to bring it into work with me to play with it there...

I did not get a chance to get the bolt & nut to attach the base plate to the handle.  that aside, once getting to work, I started messing with the top cap and base plate.  the tolerances are so damn tight that I had to use quite a bit of force to get the top cap to slide into the grooves in the base plate - I did not see anything in the way of excess plastic from the printing that would of prevented the two pieces from sliding together somewhat easily...

I ended up chipping a corner off of the base plate and it looks like on the one side of the top cap, there are some signs of stress being applied in the plastic.  I'm still not sure if the top cap is fully seated into the base plate..and even if it is, I have no idea how I'm going to remove the top cap from the base plate to insert/remove a blade.  I'm a bit nervous to even attempt doing so knowing how tight it was just to slide the top cap into plate without any blade installed as it is...not sure if I want to take the risk of slicing my hand open on the blade..

Yeah, hard to see much. Sad and hope you can get it sanded and sorted out.

Has anyone done this in Aluminium with Shapeways?

No, I went over the top and went with stainless steel.

Really nice. Looks nice. Beautiful actually. The handle in black stainless is really pretty.

But does NOT work.

The two notches the fixate the blade are of wrong dimension and slightly misaligned. So I did not take my time to file the rest to working measurements.

All my plastic versions, from shapeways and printed here work fine, though. The really light weight is a plus, if you want a heavier GEM razor you could always use an MMOC.

Indeed, the printed version is a to tight fit.

For the ones I printed at home, I enlarged the top cap to 103%. When printed at 100%, you need to file down top cap and base plate to a tight fit.

Can be done with key files in five to ten minutes.

After so many years, thanks to this razor I now also love the old SE blades of the GEM type.

I had the second version:

A little gem !!! 

Have a friend that is a teacher that knew a guy that is a skilled 3D print enthusiast. I had him do 1 for me that hopefully my friend will retrieve Friday so I can do any trimming/sanding it may need. I'm hopeful. He said he just needed $2 to cover the higher quality material used. My friend said the $15 I sent him was more than he would have but I see it as a steal. Updates when I get it......
